The Shenzhen Central Park Construction Command Center is situated within the Phase I construction of the Shenzhen Central Park in Futian District. This building is composed half of temporary container units and half of a steel structure, designed to be disassembled according to the different phases of park construction and future operational services: serving as the engineering command center and offices during construction, and reducing its volume to function as an ecological classroom, exhibition hall, and service facility for the public after the park is completed.

The two main challenges faced at the design outset were how to integrate and subsequently decompose the permanent and temporary architectural sections, and how to ensure that the large-scale office and exhibition building responds appropriately to the surrounding park landscape. To facilitate the future splitting of the building volume, the architects chose to connect the functional modules—comprising the temporary container units and the permanent steel structure respectively—with an arc-shaped grille. This forms a semi-outdoor interface that changes with the light and shadow, creating a soft curve that embraces the surrounding natural environment.

The white aluminum grille is arranged sequentially between the diagonally intersecting square volumes to form an arc profile, achieving a gradual transition from solid to void through varying sectional angles. This layer of light and shadow skin will serve as a canvas for tree shadows during the day, and at night, it allows interior light to permeate outward, creating a curtain of light.

Located within the park environment, the building features large window openings in the main exhibition hall, conference, and office spaces, allowing ecological landscapes and natural light to permeate the interior to the greatest extent possible. Communication spaces that interact with the external landscape, such as entrance vestibules, stairwells, and semi-outdoor courtyards, are formed between the diagonally intersecting different structural units.

As a building that will continuously adjust according to changes in its functional mission, what remains worth observing and anticipating is the renewed state it will present in the future after the park construction is completed, following the dismantling of the temporary building sections and the change in operational functions.
