场所精神的重塑与城市脉络的再连接:该项目成功的核心在于对太平小学这一地标性废弃建筑进行了深刻的场所精神(Genius Loci)重塑。设计没有采取推倒重来的方式,而是精准地识别了其作为连接“山海”的城市节点潜力。通过拆除围墙、设置悬臂楼梯和天桥,建筑从一个封闭的教育设施转变为一个开放的城市公共“路径”,成功地将山后的自然步道与港口码头的人工环境重新编织,实现了从历史遗迹到当代城市激活的有力过渡。

结构介入的克制与空间叙事的张力:建筑师采用了极为克制的介入策略,尤其体现在对既有结构韵律的尊重和对“废墟”状态的有意保留。新加入的木质结构(楼梯、亭阁、天桥)轻盈且富有指向性,它们清晰地标识了新的公共流线,同时又不压倒原有混凝土结构的厚重感。中部空间被剥离至“废墟”状态,模糊了室内外边界,这种处理方式不仅展现了对历史痕迹的敬畏,更在“完整”与“残缺”之间创造了一种强烈的空间叙事张力,引导访客沉浸于记忆与现实的对话中。

功能的有机植入与社区记忆的孵化器:设计巧妙地将公共功能有机植入原有的空间序列中。前部的书店不仅是商业和阅读空间,更是对学校“学习场所”角色的致敬,充当了“城市客厅”。后部和保留的旧物(桌椅)共同构成了对集体记忆的容器。这种处理超越了单纯的再利用,使建筑成为一个记忆的孵化器,唤醒了市民对港口工业时代及教育历史的集体潜意识,从而确保了新空间被社区接纳并赋予新的生命力。

There is a maze-like hillside city. We envisioned a path connecting the mountains and the sea: starting from the port terminal, ascending along the signs of Alley 113, passing through the original Taiping Elementary School, reaching the hiking trails behind the mountain, weaving the city and the forest, the artificial and the natural together. However, how to turn this vision into reality?

在这座迷宫般的山城之中,我们设想了一条连接山海的路径:从港口码头出发,沿着 113 巷的指示牌拾级而上,穿过原太平小学,抵达山后的徒步小径,将城市与森林、人工与自然编织在一起。然而,如何将这一设想变为现实呢?

Taiping Elementary School is located on the Xigang hillside, witnessing the rise and fall of Keelung City. Built in the 1960s to educate the children of West Pier workers, the school closed in 2017 due to industrial transformation, population outflow, and declining birth rates.

太平小学坐落于西港山丘之上,见证了基隆市的兴衰起伏。该校兴建于 20 世纪 60 年代,旨在为西码头工人的子女提供教育。然而,随着产业转型、人口外流以及出生率下降,该校于 2017 年关闭。

First, we removed the walls to open the formerly enclosed campus to the city as a public space. All new additions utilize wooden structures: a cantilevered staircase inviting people to climb higher; a small rooftop pavilion for looking back at the harbor and listening for the ferry's whistle; and, at the furthest end, an 18-meter-long sky bridge extending to connect with the hiking trails behind the mountain. The original school building structure has a clear rhythm, divided into three sections—front, middle, and back—by two staircases. In the front section near the entrance, we introduced a vibrant bookstore, echoing the school's former role as a place of learning. We opened up parts of the floor and walls to allow space to flow and bring mountain views indoors.

我们首先拆除了围墙,将曾经封闭的校园向城市开放,作为公共空间。所有新增设施均采用木质结构:一座悬臂楼梯,邀请人们攀登更高;一座小型屋顶亭阁,供人们回望港口,聆听抵达渡轮的汽笛声;而在最远处,一座18米长的天桥延伸出去,与山后的徒步小径相接。原校舍建筑结构韵律清晰,由两座楼梯将其分为前、中、后三部分。在入口附近的前部,我们引入了一家充满活力的书店,呼应了学校昔日作为学习场所的角色。我们打开部分地板和墙壁,让空间流动起来,并将山景引入室内。

As a reading room for Keelung, this bookstore also serves as a warm living room for everyone in the city. The old desks and chairs in the school are still available for visitors to read or rest, forming a new poetic connection with the passersby. The rear part retains the light renovation conducted by the city government a few years ago. In the middle section, we intentionally stripped the building down to a ruined state, removing floors, aluminum doors and windows, some interior partitions, and even the raised platform of the first-floor classrooms. This action extended the plaza paving into the building interior, deliberately blurring the boundary between inside and outside.

作为基隆的阅览室,这家书店也是城市中每个人的温馨客厅。学校里陈旧的桌椅仍供游客阅读或休息,与过往的人群形成了新的诗意联系。后部保留了市政府几年前进行的轻度翻新。在中部,我们有意将建筑剥离至废墟状态,移除了地板、铝合金门窗、部分室内隔断,甚至一楼教室的抬高平台。这一举动将广场的铺装延伸至建筑内部,故意模糊了室内外的界限。

The forest and the city, the past and the present, converge here. The worn blackboards, weathered tones, and the earliest textures of the space, once hidden, are gently revealed with reverence, inviting us to re-examine. Walking through the corridors where children once played, stepping into the classrooms where lessons were once taught, personal memories are evoked and converge into collective memories, becoming part of the city’s shared subconscious.

森林与城市、过去与现在在此交汇。那些曾经被隐藏的磨损黑板、风化色调以及空间最早的纹理,被怀着敬意温柔地揭开,邀请我们重新审视。漫步在孩子们曾经嬉戏的走廊,踏入曾经授课的教室,个人记忆被唤起,汇聚成集体回忆,成为城市共享潜意识的一部分。
