空间组织与场所营造的精妙平衡：项目通过一系列同心环——学术环、水环和生活环——构建了清晰而富有层次感的校园空间结构。这种环形布局不仅在宏观层面指导了整体规划，更在微观层面通过“学术环”这一充满活力的四层通高核心空间，有效连接了不同学院和共享设施。设计的精髓在于对交流与合作的强调，通过桥梁和环线将独立的学院建筑（采用模块化条形设计）有机整合，同时在中心预留了宁静的花园和学术堂，实现了功能性、社交性与沉思空间的和谐共存。

建筑语汇的在地性与识别性：尽管学院建筑采用了统一的预制混凝土框架这一模块化构架，以保证建造效率和结构一致性，但建筑师巧妙地赋予了每栋建筑独特的立面装饰和定制图案，使其在整体性中保有强烈的个体识别性。这种“统一中的多样性”体现了对不同学科属性的尊重。此外，共享空间（如环线交汇处的平台）的设置，确保了实验室、研讨室和非正式交流区的无缝衔接，实现了建筑形态与教学科研需求的深度融合。

以人为本的流线设计与偶遇文化：本设计并未将“最短路径”作为首要目标，而是精心设计了引导师生穿行于不同环形空间的多路径体验。水环上的十二座桥梁不仅是物理连接，更是空间叙事的节点，将学术核心与生活居住区紧密相连。这种设计哲学旨在鼓励“偶然的相遇”，通过创造丰富的空间序列和视野变化，激发新的创意和思维碰撞，将校园打造成一个促进知识流动和社区凝聚力的活力聚落。

Westlake University is a new type of higher education institution founded by social forces and strongly supported by the state. It was officially approved for establishment by the Ministry of Education on February 14, 2018, and is organized by the Hangzhou Westlake Education Foundation. Located in the Xihu District of Hangzhou, it features advanced academic facilities, laboratories, offices, sports facilities, canteens, and dormitories for students and faculty.
杭州西湖大学是一所社会力量举办、国家重点支持的新型高等学校，2018 年2 月14 日正式获教育部批准设立，举办方是杭州市西湖教育基金会。它位于杭州西湖区，拥有先进的学术设施、实验室、办公室、体育设施、食堂以及学生和教师宿舍。

The design of the campus responds to the needs of different scales, ranging from city-level master planning down to individual buildings. The campus site is characterized by a series of concentric rings: the Academic Ring, the Water Ring, and the Living Ring, which organize the campus on both a spatial layout and conceptual level.
西湖大学的设计回应了不同规模体量的需求，大到城市规模级别的总体规划，小到独栋建筑。校园场地以一系列同心环为特色，分别为学术环、水环和生活环，这些同心环在场地布局和概念两个层面上将校园组织起来。

The Schools of Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, and Medicine are housed in separate buildings. All these buildings adopt a modular bar design, sharing the same unique precast concrete frame, while the facades of each building are adorned with brightly colored decorations and custom patterns, each having its own distinct character. Bridges connecting these bar-shaped buildings form a series of courtyards. These buildings are interconnected via the circular Academic Ring to promote exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The junction of the rings and the institute buildings is where shared spaces are located: the ground floor houses laboratories accessible to students and researchers from all disciplines; upstairs are lecture halls, seminar rooms, and conference rooms, as well as more informal areas such as cafes and exhibition spaces.

The Academic Ring is the university's dense core of knowledge and social interaction. This vibrant, four-story, double-height space traverses the buildings it connects and offers panoramic views. Its circular form encompasses public spaces, meeting areas, seminar rooms, and laboratories. The design intentionally leaves the arcs unfinished—creating an open atmosphere. At the center of the Academic Ring is the university's Central Park—a beautiful garden suitable for retreat, contemplation, and socializing. Located in the center of the garden is the Academic Hall, a large auditorium that serves both as a formal venue for graduation ceremonies and academic events, and transforms into a lively space for concerts and cultural activities.
学术环是大学密集的知识和社交核心。这个充满活力的四层通高空间穿过其所连接的建筑物，并提供了全景视野。它的圆形形式包含公共空间、会议空间、研讨室和实验室。设计刻意将圆弧留作未完成 —— 营造出开放的氛围。学术环的中心是大学的中央公园 —— 一个适合静修、沉思和社交的美丽花园。坐落于花园中央的学术堂是一座大型礼堂，既是毕业典礼和学术活动的正式场所，又能化身为举办音乐会与文化活动的热闹空间。

The Academic Ring is surrounded by a tranquil Water Ring, with twelve bridges acting like spokes on a wheel, closely connecting the Academic Ring to the lush Living Ring, where dormitory buildings for faculty and students are scattered. Shops, canteens, and sports facilities located on the Living Ring transform the campus into a vibrant settlement. The campus design is conceived around the central area as the gravitational core. It prioritizes not the shortest path, but guides people through the distinct ring spaces, offering diverse experiences, inspiring creativity, and promoting communication. Accidental encounters often ignite new ideas and ways of thinking.
学术环周围环绕着一条宁静的水道，上面的十二座桥就像车轮上的辐条一样，将学术环与葱郁的生活环紧密相连，生活环内错落分布着供师生居住的宿舍楼。而分布在生活环上商店、食堂与体育设施，则让校园变身为一座活力聚落。校园设计以中心区域为引力核心展开构思。它并非优先考虑最短路径，而是引导人们穿行于各具特色的环形空间，提供多元体验、激发灵感与促进交流。偶然的相遇往往能点燃新的创意与思维方式。

The campus blends natural interest with humanistic inspiration: the Academic Hall hosts both lectures and concerts, becoming a leading cultural landmark in the area, and furthermore introduces external vitality into the core area of Westlake University, blurring the boundary between academic life and social life.
