This site is characterized by its position on the eastern edge of the town of Puy Guillaume, with a space primarily oriented towards the Forez mountains and the surrounding countryside.

An ambiguous situation for a building that will eventually be the most massive of this complex. The project rules out any form of rude or broken environment, favoring a symbiotic relationship with the existing. It links its position and geometry to the clearest and most concrete forms and spaces of the site: the rugby field, and finds its expression in a familiarity of materials and forms with the adjacent buildings.

The project seeks both a connection with the great landscape and an urban relationship with the town center and the already existing tertiary, sports, and technical buildings. With its scale, its recognizable "emblematic" shape, and its position on the back line of the rugby field, it marks a strong and unique presence in the scale of its project. It fully assumes its non-monumental character as a public facility, generously opening its spaces outwards.

The sports and cultural hall is located on the upper level of the ground, offering a panoramic view of the entire site. It also forms a backdrop that partially masks the technical service buildings, reconfiguring a décor focused on sporting activities. Beyond its function as a sports venue, the building has an ambition to highlight this landscape site located on the edge of the town and to enhance the existing uses. The peripheral path leading to the rugby field naturally structures and organizes the routes and spaces of the site. We imagine this place on a match day, at its busiest. The implementation of the project strengthens this existing structure and seeks to clearly materialize this organization.

It is through a covered public gallery of the extension of the sports hall that the building tightly links with the existing. This gallery protects the western facade and defines a friendly public space facing the rugby field. The leisure space located at the southwest corner occasionally opens onto the gallery through an outdoor refreshment bar, in order to bring added value to the uses already present on the site.

We want the building to be a true carrier of the city and to meet users and the public, rather than being an isolated architectural object. The gallery is one of the devices to achieve this. The second benefit of this space is the sports hall. Along the entire length of the facade, the slope of the arched structure creates a generous hood that protects the gymnasium from western light while maintaining full transparency and continuity with the outside.

The volume of the building appears as a "hat" in the wooden frame of the metal envelope, which is the formal expression of the organization of the uses. The hall and the stands are contained in a single volume, with optimized dimensions under the structure of 7 meters. Adjacent spaces that do not require as much height are located on the periphery of the room. The main space benefits from high volume, the secondary spaces from low volume. The latter are covered under the roof, giving a human scale to their uses and allowing a fluid transition between the different spaces of the scheme.

The outdoor gallery belongs to these spaces under the roofs. It benefits from a strategic location facing the rugby field to the west, forming a thickness between the inside and the outside. The project wishes to integrate as much as possible into the land, but also to be a carrier of the construction sector and local know-how, particularly the wood sector of the "Massif Central" to obtain the BTMC label.

The project strives to offer an interior space characterized by the use of raw and resistant materials through the choice of wood structure and its overall volume. The structure contributes to the "rural" quality of the interior spaces. The light in the large room is controlled to ensure optimal comfort for physical practice. It is naturally lit and has an unobstructed external view, both to offer a view of the rugby field and the exterior landscape, and to display its activities from the outside.
