From the architect. Toca House breaks the conventional pattern of traditional housing, with diversified functions that include living spaces, art studios, music studios, and gathering places, reflecting the lifestyle of its residents—architect Tito Ficarelli and visual artist Luiza Gottschalk—who are also the project's designers. This is the third residence the couple has conceived and built together for different stages of their lives.

The residence features a striking geometric form, skillfully integrating simple shapes like triangles, squares, and circles to create interior spaces that evoke different feelings as intended. Although its form appears robust, sculpted by slender columns, the overall impression is one of lightness.

Besides the couple, the house is home to their two daughters, aged 9 and 13, and an 80-year-old woman who recently joined the family. To accommodate the complex living needs, with a focus on accessibility, comfort (including thermal and acoustic insulation, and visual aspects), the house adopts a three-story structure:

The base of the building, constructed from concrete, houses three bedrooms, with the backyard providing noise isolation for privacy. The second level, made of steel, forms the grid framework supporting the main floor. The third level, containing the living room, kitchen, studio, and music space, is built with Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT). All enclosures utilize glass frames, while the entire triangular shell—including the roof and side facades—is covered with tiles.

The structural solution and material choices prioritize environmental efficiency and climate performance, ensuring thermal and acoustic insulation. The use of prefabricated components simplified the assembly process, creating a clean construction site while reducing material waste, water and energy consumption, shortening the overall construction time, and minimizing building debris. Brazilian stone is used for the living room floor, creating a continuous pattern throughout the space.

The varying heights of the roof make the entire house feel constantly bright and airy, like a balcony integrated with the garden. This design maximizes natural light and ventilation, eliminating the need for air conditioning.
