结构语汇的再利用与立面更新：设计展现了高超的结构语汇整合能力。新的功能核心体量巧妙地“漂浮”于现有结构之上，并嵌入巨大的柱体，赋予了原有桥式起重机新的生命意义。此外，立面处理兼顾了历史协调与现代表达。砖砌基座与周边建筑保持对话，而屋顶边缘延伸的白色迷你波浪形金属板则以一种轻盈的姿态表达了建筑的公共性和通透性，通过新的开口暗示了内部的活力，实现了历史肌理的现代性更新。
This project resulted from a competition to transform an old early 20th-century military industrial building into a major sports center with reference value for the city, region, and country.

The building, oriented north-south, is 125 meters long and 85 meters wide, divided into a central building 20 meters high and two side wings 13 meters high. These buildings have a clear and repetitive geometry and a sawtooth roof that mimics the solemnity of a cathedral, although its appearance is terrible due to the passage of time, human neglect, and the lack of exterior cladding. This noble quality is confirmed internally thanks to the expressiveness of the polychrome structure, worn by time, which allows spectacular zenithal light to penetrate 50% of the surface, defining the character of the space.

Our proposal aims to maintain the existing values while fully preserving the perception of its original characteristics, even introducing a new, light, and colorful world related to the playful character that a building of this type should express. On one hand, we intervene on the floor, which until now was gray, using color to define the new sports areas: athletics, basketball, handball, badminton, and climbing.

On the other hand, the requirements of the new sports programs (halls, changing rooms, federation rooms, offices) are resolved with an intense yellow block, which in turn forms two large climbing walls that become the protagonists of the central space of the project. It is weightless, floating in the space of the industrial cathedral, thanks to its embedding in the building's large pillars and its suspension from the original bridge cranes, thus giving them new life. This volume also becomes the upper level for spectators and an element that defines the boundaries between the different sports zones.

Finally, our design provides the building with a new façade, consisting of a brick base that harmonizes with the nearby buildings, and a white cladding that extends to the edge of the roof. The latter is resolved with white, mini-wavy metal sheets commonly used in the industrial sector, into which new openings are inserted to express the building’s new public function and create a more permeable relationship with its surroundings.
