From the architect. In 2021, architectural firm BERGER PARKKINEN+was commissioned to build a new building for the Mozart University at the Kurgarten (UMAK) in Salzburg. The Kurgarten Mozart Conservatory is located adjacent to the Paracelsus Bad&Kurhaus spa and wellness center, which was also designed by BERGER PARKKINEN+and completed in 2019. Nowadays, these two buildings, with their concise and unique architectural language, together form the iconic landscape of Salzburg's historic district.

When designing the new building, the architect drew inspiration from the adjacent hot spring garden and old defensive structures, aiming to achieve a natural transition from the Baroque garden of Mirabell Palace to the Wilhelm era style Markus Sittikus Stra ß e.
在设计新大楼时，建筑师从毗邻的温泉花园和旧时防御工事的形态中汲取灵感，旨在实现从米拉贝尔宫巴洛克式园林到威廉玛时代风格的马库斯-西蒂库斯街（Markus-Sittikus-Straße）的自然过渡。

Site Selection
The design and planning of the Kurgarten Mozart Music Academy not only focuses on the building site itself, but also takes into account the overall environment of the inner city parks (Kurgarten, Zweiggelgarten, and Miraberggarten).. The main building of the Mozart Conservatory is located at the southwest end of the area.

The new building, as part of the urban development concept, cleverly integrates different architectural styles from Baroque to Wilhelm era to the 20th century, while building a bridge between the park and the city streets. For this purpose, UMAK was designed as two buildings of varying heights and volumes to coordinate with the surrounding buildings: one side features the enclosed Auerspergstra ß e facade, while the other side features the more open Schwarzstra ß e. Like the nearby Paracelsus hot springs and wellness center, the main entrance is located on a newly opened square at the corner of Schwartz Street and Orspeg Street.

Internal Space
As a university building, its ground floor is open to the public.. The core of the building is an atrium with natural skylights that run through to the top floor. The building is divided into two volumes, which can accommodate a large auditorium and a practice room with a special floor height. The strong overhang formed above the entrance area highlights the importance of the square ahead and provides a view of the nearby Paracelsus hot springs.
内部空间
作为大学建筑，其底层向公众开放。建筑的核心是一个带有自然采光天窗的中庭，贯穿至顶层。建筑分为两座体量，可容纳大型礼堂和具有特殊层高的练习室。上层在入口区域上方形成的强大悬挑，突显了前方广场的重要性，并提供了观赏邻近帕拉塞尔苏斯温泉浴场的视野。

Facade Design
Like the nearby Paracelsus hot spring bath and wellness center, UMAK's facade adopts a ceramic panel design.. However, the latter adopts an open panel design, while UMAK adopts a closed ceramic facade with rear ventilation.

与邻近的帕拉塞尔苏斯温泉浴场与疗养中心一样，UMAK 的立面采用了陶瓷板设计。不过，后者采用开放式条板设计，而 UMAK 则采用封闭式、背后通风的陶瓷立面。

This design fully considers the special needs of art universities with a focus on music: each room requires sunlight and ventilation, the concert hall requires a large area of glass curtain wall, and the studio requires a dark and quiet environment. The materials, colors, and proportions are all based on the bathhouse, but UMAK's boards are enclosed. Only in large rehearsal halls, fixed slats provide shading function. The classroom adopts a unified window type and integrates shading and anti glare design. The entrance area and the connection between the two buildings are covered with a large area of glass curtain wall.
这一设计充分考虑了以音乐为重点的艺术大学的特殊需求：各个房间需要日光和通风，音乐厅需要大面积玻璃幕墙，而工作室则需要黑暗和安静的环境。材料、色彩和比例均以浴场为蓝本，但 UMAK 的条板是封闭的。只有在大型排练厅中，固定条板才提供遮阳功能。教室采用统一窗型，并集成遮阳和防眩光设计。入口区域和两座建筑之间的连接处则采用大面积玻璃幕墙。
