Echo Home/PARABOLICA

Echo House is a reinterpretation of a beloved family home - a reconstruction of memory, atmosphere, and architectural form through the perspective of Australian modernism. Although the original residence was simple and unadorned, it had unique architectural features. Its low roof plan, exposed wooden decorative lines, and selected materials all quietly draw on the essence of mid-20th century architectural style.

The design of the new interior space is a reinterpretation of the modernity of the past, while maintaining a familiar connection with the single story brick house that once stood here. This is the method of protection (and inheritance) - in a way that echoes, preserving the soul of the original residence. This project does not simply replicate the previous building, but strives to reproduce its rhythm, proportion, and sense of existence.

The minimalist style of architecture has become the backdrop of life. It deliberately creates a serene atmosphere while incorporating warmth and touch into the details. This project explores the beauty of blending light and shadow, spatial volume, and material texture by comparing the mutual contrast of materials. A large bookshelf divides the central area and staircase space. The bookshelf extends upwards to the top empty layer, and the full height design creates a sense of verticality, enhancing the visual effect of the height of the space. This bookshelf is designed specifically to showcase the books and artworks that our clients cherish, and can be considered the core of the entire home.

The living space is based on concrete block walls, creating a sense of long-lasting stability. Using locally produced Tasmanian oak to add a warm texture and natural texture to the space, with natural stone accents complementing it. Upstairs is a quieter space. A terrace surrounded by vertical wooden strips cleverly balances natural lighting and privacy. Under the deep eaves, the tall glass curtain wall frames the garden and sky scenery into the field of view, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.
