The planning of the library building at Xiangnan Engineering High School is to address the issue of aging of the existing library building. The architect proposed to merge the library with some aging teaching buildings. The architectural form in the new design is roughly a pentagonal plan measuring 30 meters by 26 meters. This is a three story building, with a maximum height of about 14 meters. The floor heights start from the first floor and increase to 3.5 meters, 4.5 meters, and 5.5 meters, respectively.

At first, the architect considered dividing the area based on the different functions of the classroom and library, but ultimately decided to set up one classroom and one library on each floor because the architect believed that the integration of different functions could stimulate students' potential. The classroom adopts the design style of an open school, and the load-bearing walls (RC walls) in the structure have different layouts, sizes, and shapes on each floor. The upper wall spans two different walls on the lower floor, so that the load on the upper floor can be evenly transmitted to the lower floor. This random wall structure creates a nest like architectural form, where various spaces are loosely connected and high school students can engage in a variety of activities.

When designing a new school building that integrates classrooms and libraries, architects abandoned traditional closed classrooms used for managing students and instead envisioned an environment where libraries and classrooms can inspire each other, promote independent discovery, learning, and establish relationships. Firstly, remove the walls of the rectangular classroom and establish a connection with the external space. By minimizing the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, the building becomes more sensitive to the external environment, creating a more fluid space and making the entire campus vibrant.

Breaking away from the uniform directional layout in traditional classroom planning, the arrangement of walls has become more random. In this open environment, the walls gently surround the classroom, allowing users to freely create their own space and create a nest like layout.
