The National School of Architecture of Versailles is located in the former King's stables, facing the Palace of Versailles, and welcomes over 1200 students annually. Due to changes in teaching methods and deteriorating school conditions, the school has decided to carry out a comprehensive renovation of some areas of the college, namely its workshops. Some areas of the site are still in use and listed as cultural heritage, so there is an urgent need for rapid intervention, which has led the design process to adopt a comprehensive approach.

To address various challenges, the project reorganized all spatial networks, integrating fixed and mobile lighting and furniture. At the same time, a concise and clear renovation was carried out on the exterior of the historic building. The project covers an area of 1500 square meters and consists of three large workshops with different geometric shapes.

The renovation work fully utilizes the characteristics of each space, providing a variety of work and learning environments (including team work, individual work, computer use, model making, etc.), while encouraging interaction among students. Two of the spaces are more suitable for personal work or model making due to their unique layout, while the third workshop can flexibly adapt to various layout needs due to its simple layout, movable tables, and suspended network system (which can be used for exhibitions, demonstrations, etc.).

Furniture is custom designed, assembled mechanically from standardized components with minimal modifications. The connection system with the existing structure has been carefully designed to effectively release and clean up space. The raw materials used, such as galvanized steel and recycled plastic, are designed to echo the history of the site. The restoration of over 300 years old stone and plaster has established a dialogue between historical buildings and new renovations.
