Middle school renovation and expansion/wulf architekten

At the request of Gellingen Town, this high school built in the 1970s was expanded to accommodate three classes per grade and adapt to current educational standards. This design defines intermediate high schools as identifiable places with unique identities within existing campuses. The existing building is preserved as a shell and transformed into a core element of a modern school complex with flexible use potential through renovation and expansion.

By directly connecting the additional construction to the existing building, minimizing surface sealing, sufficient space is left for the amusement area next to the middle school. Due to its location on a ramp, the building creates an attractive open space by connecting different floors of the teaching building.

The newly built modern dedicated classrooms are arranged in a circular pattern around the existing teaching building, transforming it into a "learning home" with clustered areas. Its characteristics are the basic elements of educational philosophy: flexible space, providing a quiet or group workspace, as well as a place for students to gather and chat. There are six classrooms distributed around each cluster on each floor.

The exterior is characterized by large windows, which are alternately laid with smooth precast concrete and rough plaster, and the subtle reliefs on the surface give it a special charm. The three story auditorium is well lit and connected to professional classrooms through a long corridor, creating an attractive visual connection between each floor. Due to the sloping terrain, two of the three floors of the auditorium are connected to the surrounding outdoor space.
