From the architect. The PPW studio is located on a school campus in an urbanized area. The project aims to simplify the environment into a concise and clear building. The project brief requires the design of a workshop space to accommodate architecture courses and an art studio for painting courses. These two spaces are placed in a column system, allowing them to overlap, creating open and flexible workspaces in both the ground floor workshop and the first floor painting workshop.

The structural system also allows for a spacious opening at the bottom facing the street. This creates a covered entrance area, establishing a connection between the street and the adjacent courtyard leading to the school entrance. The structural system can be best understood from the facade of the building, as the framework of two spaces and the relationship and abstract expression between adjacent facades can be seen.

Facing south, the structure extends to form a canopy that extends towards the playground. This controls solar radiation and introduces a planting screen as the first step in transforming the existing mineral playground into a green landscape. The canopy also serves as an external corridor for the first floor studio. All vertical and horizontal traffic cores are located outside the main glass volume to present a clear and concise appearance of the project. In addition, the design team also proposed setting up a accessible roof as a space for circulation and public gatherings.

The concrete structure with lightweight glass filling leaves gaps between the existing adjacent buildings on both sides. Here, two vertical transportation cores are integrated to address the complex height differences between existing buildings and PPW studios. These vertical structures can adapt to future development, as they may consider replacing outdated adjacent building volumes in the future.
