This small house is located in the picturesque northwest of the Skurusundet Strait, posing many challenges for potential buyers to build new houses. The location is a deep valley with cliffs on both sides, and road access is restricted. Although the towering cliffs of the property offer magnificent views of Stockholm's port entrance, reaching these heights seems like a daunting task while complying with planning regulations and feasible construction costs.

From a historical perspective, the area surrounding the property has been a summer resort for middle-income individuals, characterized by small, simple red cottages available for subsidized summer accommodation. Due to their proximity to Stockholm, most of these cottages have now been replaced by larger permanent residences. However, this particular location used to have a larger building; Extending downwards through the canyon from the terraced landscape wall, there is evidence of a semi-circular fish pond surrounded by sturdy granite walls at the end.

The new house is a strict three story structure with a compact floor plan and the smallest footprint. By embedding the building part into the existing steep cliff edge, the required height for adding one floor was achieved while reducing visual impact. Therefore, the building combines the existing terrace with minimal further changes. Wood is strictly divided into horizontal and vertical elements, which are opposite to the terrain, giving the relationship between the house and the site a strong characteristic.

A central wooden staircase connects the three floors of the building and organizes the floor plan. The ground floor of the building includes public spaces. The middle floor serves as the main entrance floor and is equipped with wardrobes and bedrooms. The all glass open top floor offers a magnificent view of the entrance to Stockholm Port, designed to combine a kitchen and a living room. Each floor has direct access to outdoor terrace rock gardens of different heights. Considering the unique characteristics of the site, the building strives to use renewable materials as much as possible.

The Saltviga project uses noble scraps from flooring production, and in this project, the idea of upgrading raw wood materials was tested. Through a carefully selected sawing process, multi jointed pine wood has been transformed into knotless pine wood. Multiple sections of wood are used for invisible internal structural components, while carefully selected flawless parts are exposed. Therefore, pine wood has transformed from a low-cost and easily obtainable material to a material with a more subtle and elegant texture.
