Surrounded by a porch structure, the Plaza Sóller in Barcelona (Spain, 1983) was separated from its surroundings. At the end of the square is the Ateneu la Bòbila community facility. Due to difficult access and significant architectural barriers, it was marginalized in the daily lives of the community and its space was underutilized.

In 2015, the Barcelona City Council responded to requests from surrounding residents for a comprehensive renovation of the complex. The project was inspired by the participation of neighbors, local community members, and young people from a local school in Palma de Mallorca. The project's demands were:

After demolishing the perimeter buildings, an accessible network of paths connects the park to the whole neighborhood. People no longer need to enter or leave the park; instead, they pass through it incidentally on their way to school, the market, or other destinations.

The reformed, extended, and integrated Ateneu is adding other park elements such as a market, a greenhouse, a gym, children's playground, sports equipment, an artificial lake, or a large multipurpose square. At the Ateneu, nine neighborhood associations have established a supportive network that includes community exchange, mutual aid, and cultural, educational, recreational, and childcare support programs.

For the new level addition, a dry prefabrication assembly construction was chosen. The wooden porch structure spans 10 meters with 5-meter spacing, and the walls are built using balloon framing both inside and out, with a metal facade featuring wooden battens as a sun protection measure.

Another level uses a new arrangement order, utilizing the combination of vertical wooden beams to create sun protection. By tightly fitting the two facade layers together. To achieve ideal comfort with lower environmental resource costs, the project incorporates as many passive measures as possible to reduce energy consumption, while also using renewable energy to generate power.

In addition to socio-economic benefits, environmental benefits are also a necessary consideration. The transition from the square to the park consolidates its position in the ecological network connection between Collserola Natural Park and the sea. Furthermore, by doubling the green area, building habitats for invertebrates, and implementing SUDS infrastructure and plant purification systems in the pond, this series of measures strengthens the overall biodiversity of the park.

When combined with an active community center, the park model enhances its positive impact as a public space on people's lives. Sóller Square and the Ateneu la Bòbila complex have now been transformed into a park that promotes the health and well-being of residents, once again becoming a bond for the Porta neighborhood to gather and interact.
