This Hussite Revolution Memorial Park in Čakovice was historically a natural village situated by a lake. During the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic, the lake was drained and the area transformed into a park, during which process the original houses by the lake were demolished.

Reconstruction work was carried out here in 2019-2020, before which remains of the roofs and gables of some buildings were still visible. The park’s reconstruction was led by the Land05 landscape studio, headed by Martina Forejtová. The S K U L L studio was invited to participate in the design of the boundary wall on the south side of the park, ultimately creating this exaggerated, sculptural brick relief partition named the “Superpower Wall.”

The outlines of the pitched roofs from the former village green are still imprinted on the park’s boundary wall after its transformation. These diagonally folded decorative patterns, traces of historical extension, form the basis of this brick relief wall, where classic brick structure techniques are applied to the actual design.

The artist Matěj Hájek from the S K U L L studio, the designer of this wall, described it as: “It is a commemoration that, although no longer existing, still leaves its mark on the place and time.” Compared to traditional construction materials, the wall is equipped with a transparent coating featuring nanotechnology. Due to its photocatalytic properties, free of chemicals and waste, it purifies the surrounding air. The wall surface is impregnated with titanium dioxide, which works together with UV light to remove several kilograms of harmful substances per square meter annually. This unique technology was developed by scientists at the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry in the Czech Republic.

Hájek added: “The invisible plays a dual role here. On one hand, the nanotechnology coating that functions thanks to sunlight, and on the other, the fragments of memory that exist only in our imagination. What is important is not what we see, but what we cannot see.” The brick relief wall complements the water feature designed by the XTOPIX studio, whose deep surface is reminiscent of the former lakebed.
