Axonometric Drawing
Observation station for mangroves, the lagoon, and the stars. The Bacalar Lagoon is the largest freshwater microbial reef in the world. It is one of the few places where living stromatolites exist, a valuable evolutionary treasure.

Site Plan
It is also the last mangrove area on the edge of the lagoon in the town of Bacalar, facing great vulnerability due to urban expansion.

Ground Floor Plan
The main strategy of the project is to minimize the required intervention and act with acuity to move through the rich local flora and fauna, impacting it as little as possible.

Services Ground Floor Plan
The built square docks, 200 meters per side, oriented north, have variable height to avoid touching the mangroves and trees, allowing a smooth glide along the lagoon. The solid spaces house a research laboratory and service facilities, extending among the tall trees to the shaded plain.

Transversal Section
We used locally certified chicozapote wood to build an efficient structural system, finding the right scale that would serve as columns, beams, and foundations simultaneously.

Longitudinal Section
Furthermore, the landscape strategy was reinforced, reducing construction to free up space, aiming to mitigate the village runoff pollution through natural filters, wetlands, and rainwater gardens, as well as the recovery of degraded mangroves.

Museography Diagram
Finally, a scale museum diagram was incorporated into the tour, engraving the history of the unique biodiversity in the wood, becoming a timeline of ten thousand years. It invites visitors to know and protect the place, and for the inhabitants of Bacalar to participate in the social management of public and free spaces.
