Bidadari Park is situated within Singapore's new public housing area, Bidadari Estate, with a design vision to create a "community in a garden." Henning Larsen Architects transformed this 13-hectare site, formerly a multicultural cemetery, with deep respect for its rich cultural history, creating a natural and inclusive space at the community's doorstep. By integrating placemaking concepts with active mobility strategies to cater to the increasing activity needs of residents, Bidadari Park becomes an easily accessible destination centered around resident needs.

The nature-centric design places Alkaff Lake at its heart, featuring the iconic Rain Tree Island crowned by a Rain Tree (Samanea saman). This 1.8-hectare lake is the core component of an innovative, multi-functional rainwater drainage infrastructure for water management. It intercepts 90% of the site's rainwater through terraced wetlands, vegetated swales, marshes, streams, and retention ponds. During heavy storms, rainwater collects across the park into the marshes, flows through the Ficus Hil stream, and ultimately empties into the lake. After entering Alkaff Lake, the water circulates back through the terraced wetlands, forming a closed-loop system that enhances drainage capacity and bolsters ecological resilience. This water-sensitive urban design approach helps maintain natural habitats, promotes biodiversity, and attracts more wildlife.

Bidadari Park is designed for all members of the family, both human and animal, featuring 6 km of walking trails, viewing decks, pavilions, and nature-inspired adventure playgrounds for children, providing spaces for rest, observation, play, and intimate engagement with local flora and fauna. Despite its urban setting, the park supports over 193 species of wildlife. It now hosts more than 50% of Singapore’s migratory terrestrial bird species and remains one of the two remaining woodland habitats in Singapore. A 100-meter-long bridge connects two mature woodland areas, allowing visitors to walk above and observe wildlife in the natural environment.

Henning Larsen's planting strategy retained 84% of the mature trees and introduced over 170 new native plant species. Across the topographically diverse site, 'quiet zones' are distributed as cores of natural vegetation, while 'active zones' support community activities for park users, achieving a harmonious coexistence between people and nature. Ecological structures such as standing deadwood, log piles, and large boulders provide perching, nesting, and foraging spots for various bird species, while a 20-meter-high raptor nesting platform offers additional perching and alternative nesting sites for these apex predators.
