Fitzgerald Frisby Landscape Architecture: Civic Park is located within the centre of the regional township Warragul. The gardenesque style of the park incorporates expansive lawns, ponds, and specimen trees (some heritage listed). The attractive surrounds make it a gathering place for the community and a popular place for weddings. The park also hosts various community gatherings and events, including a regular farmer’s market.
FFLA worked with Baw Baw Shire Council in the preparation of a Master Plan for the park which was then followed by a design for the play space upgrade.

Inspiration for the play space was drawn from the established garden character of the park, and a desire for new additions to contribute positively to this established character. The use of forms suggesting a glass-house or conservatory allowed the creation of a striking visual centre-piece for a botanic-themed play space. The structure also takes on a playful sense of age and ruination. The glass in the glass-house is missing, and a palm tree breaks through the non-existent glass ceiling. The play space is designed for people of all ages with a new network of paths linking the play space to existing water features and picnic areas.
The play space has become an integral part of the function and character of the park, and sitscomfortably within the old park. Although completed less than ayear ago, it is already difficult to imagine the park without it.
