NYC saw another yarn-bombing last month when HOTTEA decided to spruce up the Williamsburg Bridge with a colorful temporary canopy. The Minneapolis-based yarnmaster spun the rainbow-colored web directly over the bridge's pedestrian walkway, providing commuters with some eye candy to brighten their days. The artist entitled the work "Rituals " in reference to her daily routine of walking across the bridge into Manhattan and back.
HOTTEA and a team of assistants laced the bridge with 2,000 individual strands of yarn, which took an estimated eleven hours to cut and install. Stretching ten feet above the ground, the beautiful blanket of rainbow thread loomed two feet above the average door height, perhaps in an attempt to dissuade passersby from adding their own touches to the installation.
Signs of fraying are already evident on the installation, but it will reportedly stay up until either human intervention or the natural elements wear it down.
