Stoss and SHoP Architects designed a master plan full of vibrant, alternating “grid-green” spaces for Dallas, Texas. The design incorporates bands of lush landscape and high density urban development, connecting the city and its river. The 176-acre proposal, entitled ‘Hyper Density Hyper Landscape’ was chosen as one of three finalists in the Dallas Connected City Design Challenge.

The proposal aims to rejuvenate the area between Dallas’ downtown and the planned Trinity River Corridor Park. It was conceived as a way of connecting the collection of independent infrastructure and development decisions made during the past century to create a cohesive whole.

In the north, a mixed-use neighborhood connects downtown with the emerging design district, while Riverfront South connects Dallas’ South side to the Trinity. Public land is activated as entrepreneurial urban forests and farms. Highways are interwoven with bands of ecologically diverse forests and gardens.

The project revitalizes the Old River area and transforms it into chains of parks and water gardens with floating cafes, water amphitheaters, sport venues and wetland habitats. A new pedestrian and light rail network connect DeCCo, The Viaduct and Diverfront South and provides an ever-changing landscape of natural and built environment.
