极限场地下的高密度策略与功能复合:本项目最精妙之处在于其对极端受限场地的积极回应。在仅有标准用地三分之一的面积内,设计团队通过抬高运动场地至屋顶、架空底层空间并实现功能组团的紧凑复合布局,成功植入了40个班级的现代化中学所需的所有核心功能。这种“复合集约”的空间策略,将传统平铺的校园平面布局转化为垂直整合的“小型城市群落”,最大化了容积率的同时,巧妙地平衡了高密度开发与必需的公共活动空间需求,是解决城市核心区教育设施用地紧张问题的典范。
立体化公共空间网络与激活校园活力:面对地块紧张,设计通过构建一个多层次、立体化的公共活动系统,有效缓解了地面空间的拥挤感。通过水平交通系统连接三大功能组团,并在各层设置室外/半室外平台和连廊,创造了丰富的“空中跑道”和休憩场所,使人均活动面积得以保障。特别是将屋顶打造成集跑道、花园于一体的活动高地,并以蜿蜒的室外楼梯串联所有层面,这种垂直流线的设计不仅增强了空间体验的趣味性,更确保了高密度校园的内在活力与连通性。
开放共生的城市界面与社区融合:该项目成功打破了传统学校封闭的“象牙塔”模式,探索了教育建筑与城市社会的开放性连接。通过入口处大挑檐下方的半室外广场,创造了一个向社区开放的“城市客厅”,实现了建筑公共性的当代诠释。同时,动态地引入城市景观入校园的设计手法,使得建筑如同“浸润在城市中”,不仅消解了高密度体量对街道的压迫感,更使学校成为激活街区活力的积极因子,体现了面向未来的城市教育综合体的愿景。
The relocation and expansion project of Wuning Middle School (now Tongji University Second Affiliated Middle School) is located at No. 186 Dongxin Road, Putuo District. The site is situated in the core area of Shanghai's inner ring road, surrounded by dense residential areas, and is adjacent to Metro Line 3 and the Inner Ring Elevated Road to the north. The school's location experiences high daily traffic flow and building density. After evaluation by the relevant urban planning departments, a strategy of urban renewal through relocation and replacement was adopted, moving the school from the northwest to the southeast of the site to provide sufficient space for a modernized middle school with 40 classes after expansion.
武宁中学(现为同济大学第二附属中学)异地改扩建项目位于普陀区东新路 186 号,基地位于上海内环核心区域,周边环绕密集住宅区,北侧紧邻轻轨三号线与内环高架桥。学校所在地块日常交通流量高,建筑密度大。经过城市规划相关部门论证,决定通过异地置换的城市更新策略,将学校从地块西北侧迁移至东南侧,为扩建后 40 个班级的现代化中学提供充足空间。

However, the main difficulty encountered during the design process was the extremely limited buildable land. Firstly, the actual site area after relocation is only about 14,200 square meters, far below the area typically required by standard specifications, approximately one-third of the standard area. Secondly, the requirement for sports facilities according to Shanghai's construction standards is 18,360 square meters, which also far exceeds the site's carrying capacity, resulting in high construction intensity. How to balance high floor area ratio (FAR) with functional requirements on a narrow plot, while simultaneously creating a campus atmosphere that harmonizes with the urban environment, was the core challenge of our design.
然而,在设计工作过程中面临的主要难点是可供建设用地十分局促。首先,迁址后的实际用地仅约 14200 平方米,远低于通常标准所需面积,大概为标准用地的三分之一。其次,按照上海市建设标准运动场地需求为 18360 平方米,也远超基地承载能力,建设强度大。如何在狭窄地块上平衡高容积率与功能需求,同时兼顾校园氛围与城市环境的营造,是我们设计的核心挑战。

1.0 Composite and Intensive Spatial Strategy
At the initial stage of the Wuning Middle School relocation and expansion project, facing the reality of extremely tight land availability, we proposed three concept schemes in different directions: Scheme 1: Placing the 200-meter track on the ground level, integrating the buildings into a continuous complex, resulting in a compact layout but with two underground levels, maximizing development volume, but failing to meet green coverage standards; Scheme 2: Raising the sports field to a height of 1.5 stories, forming three independent building volumes, with a distinct image and easily shareable sports space with the community on a time-sharing basis. Underground development volume was large, building density was high, and the FAR was 1.5; Scheme 3: Also adopting the strategy of raising the sports field, achieving the highest above-ground FAR of about 1.85, minimizing underground development, and offering the best economic performance.
在武宁中学改扩建项目初期,面对用地极度紧张的现实,我们提出了三个不同方向的概念方案:方案1:将 200 米跑道置于地面,建筑整合为连续综合体,布局紧凑但地下室两层,开发量最大,绿化率不达标;方案 2:将运动场抬升至 1.5 层高度,形成三个独立建筑体量,形象鲜明且运动空间便于分时与社区共享。地下开发量较大,建筑密度高,容积率为 1.5;方案 3:同样采用运动场地抬升策略,实现地上容积率最高约 1.85、地下开发量最小,经济性最优。

Based on the above attempts, and following the decisions made by various departments, the final design was deepened according to Scheme 3. This scheme primarily has two core strategies: "Composite Intensification" and "Open Interface."

2.0 "Small Urban Cluster" Functional Grouping
We integrated the campus functions into three main volumes: the teaching cluster, the administration and library complex cluster, and the sports facilities cluster. These three are covered under a large roof, forming a "small urban cluster," which both dissolves the oppressive presence of large volumes on the street and harmonizes with the scale of the surrounding residential areas. Among them, the teaching cluster, as the core, adopts a "回" (Hui, meaning return/enclosed) shaped volume design, enclosing a spacious central courtyard that serves for circulation, landscaping, and social functions, introducing ample sunlight and greenery to create a transparent and natural public campus space.
我们将校园功能整合为三个主要体量:教学组团、办公与图书综合组团、体育设施组团。三者共同覆盖在一个大屋顶之下,形成“小型城市群落”,既消解了大体量对街道的压迫,也与周边住宅区尺度相协调。其中,教学组团作为核心,采用“回”字型体量设计,围合出兼具交通、景观与社交功能的开阔公共中央庭院,引入充沛的阳光与绿化,营造出通透而富有自然气息的公共校园空间。

A horizontal circulation system connects the three clusters, with outdoor, semi-outdoor platforms and corridors set up on each level, forming a three-dimensional public activity system. Students can run, gather, and look out between classes, resulting in an average activity area of 6 square meters per person, effectively alleviating the problem of crowding in high-density campuses.
三个组团之间有水平向的交通系统连接,在每层设置室外、半室外平台与连廊,形成立体化的公共活动系统。学生可在课间奔跑、集合、远眺,人均活动面积达 6 平方米,有效缓解高密度校园的活动拥挤问题。

3.0 Campus Immersed in the City
Unlike traditional enclosed "ivory tower" campuses, the design of Wuning Middle School explores an open connection between educational space and urban society. Through the design of open corridors and the clever use of partial mirror reflections, dynamic streetscapes are introduced into the campus, allowing teachers and students to inadvertently capture city views while walking.
有别于传统封闭的“象牙塔”式校园,武宁中学的设计探索了教育空间与城市社会的开放性连接。通过开阔的走廊设计和局部镜面反射的巧妙运用,把街道景观动态地引入校园,让师生在行走间不经意地捕捉到城市的风景。

The large eaves at the entrance not only shape a ceremonial entry experience, but the semi-outdoor plaza beneath them transforms into an "urban living room" open to the community, achieving a contemporary interpretation of the public nature of educational architecture. The building facade adopts a standardized modular design, with non-uniform facade elements, which satisfies different teaching functions and echoes the daily atmosphere of the surrounding city.
入口处的大挑檐不仅塑造了具有仪式感的进入体验,其下方的半室外广场更化身为向社区开放的“城市客厅”,实现了教育建筑公共性的当代诠释。建筑立面采用标准化模块设计,各个立面元素不一,即满足了不同的教学功能,也呼应了周边城市的日常氛围。

4.0 The Floating Campus Roof
The three volumes jointly support the large roof above. The west side of the roof is mainly used for administration offices and meeting rooms, while the east side houses the 200-meter track, equipment fields, long jump pits, roof gardens, and the campus broadcasting station. To facilitate student access to classes on various floors, we also set up winding outdoor stairs in the teaching building's inner courtyard leading up to the roof activity area, connecting the ground level, various floor platforms, and the large roof playground into an integrated whole. This breaks spatial limitations and creates rich activity experiences while also serving an important evacuation function.
三个体量共同托举起顶部的大屋顶,屋顶西侧主要是行政办公及会议室的使用,而 200 米跑道、器械场地、跳远沙坑、屋顶花园和校园广播站则是布置在屋顶的东侧。为方便学生通往各楼层上课,我们也在教学楼内庭院设置室外楼梯蜿蜒向上通至屋顶活动场地,将地面、各层平台与屋顶大操场串联为一个整体,在打破空间局限、创造丰富活动体验的同时,也承担着重要的疏散功能。

The roof enclosure height is about 7 meters, and the exterior facade uses a metal mesh screen, creating a light, floating sensation. From the outside, this space becomes a visual focal point on the city skyline, highlighting the unique personality of the campus.
屋顶围栏高度约 7 米,外立面采用金属网格栅,塑造轻盈的漂浮感。从外部看该空间是城市天际线的视觉焦点,凸显了校园的独特个性。

The relocation and expansion project of Wuning Middle School is another complex practice of urban renewal by Atelier Archmixing. Under the background of severely restricted land use, the design is guided by "urbanization" and "functionalization," skillfully organizing three architectural volumes, raising the sports field, and suspending the ground floor space, linking functional areas via corridors. The project not only completely accommodates the teaching tasks for 40 classes but also integrates into the community through open spatial strategies, activating public life in the neighborhood and becoming a new landmark in Shanghai's inner ring that combines educational function with community vitality.
武宁中学移扩建项目是阿科米星又一次城市更新的复杂实践。在用地严重受限的背景下,设计以“城市化”与“功能化”为导向,巧妙组织三个建筑体量,抬高运动场地,架空底层空间,并通过连廊串联功能区域。项目不仅完备地承载了 40 班的教学任务,更通过开放的空间策略融入社区,激活了街区的公共生活,成为上海内环兼具教育功能与社区活力的新地标。
