H&M“A Stage for one and for all”的品牌宣言具象化。

From the architect. SKYnoa has created a new concept space for H&M in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, breaking tradition by integrating retail, art, and culture, inviting customers to freely explore, mix, and create their own styles. Starting from Seoul, H&M has developed a brand experience platform with international communication power and social influence. Through this space, H&M’s declaration, “A Stage for one and for all,” is materialized; it is not only a stage for fashion but also a cultural site for self-expression.

Seongsu-dong, once an industrial hub, has transformed into one of Seoul's most vibrant cultural and creative gathering spots, hosting concept stores, galleries, cafes, and international brand pop-ups. Drawing inspiration from the large billboards and theater curtains ubiquitous in the neighborhood, SKYnoa envelops the building's facade with fabric, creating an atmosphere of veiled mystery. The curtain facade symbolizes the opening of a stage, inviting visitors onto their own style platform. While preserving the original building facade, the design imbues it with a contemporary new look characteristic of H&M. The ground floor is enclosed with translucent frosted glass, piquing curiosity while allowing pedestrians to catch glimpses of the interior displays. Concrete benches are placed outside, cleverly extending the indoor experience to the street.

The main entrance is shaped like H&M’s classic “&” symbol, distinguishing it from mass-market store designs and signaling the brand's shift from the “YOLO (You Only Live Once)” mentality to a more rational and refined “YONO (You Only Need One)” approach to quality living. The H&M brand-red staircase resembles a theater’s interlude area, serving as a transition space connecting the preceding and subsequent chapters, creating a warm and culturally resonant atmosphere while also offering photo opportunities.

The interior design unfolds like a continuous dramatic journey, where each floor is a "new act" dedicated to exploring personal style. The ground floor is designed as a flexible stage displaying H&M's curated selection. The high-speed guardrail in the center of the space is repurposed into a sculptural installation integrated with product display, echoing the giant squeegee on the mirror surface, reinterpreting Seongsu-dong’s industrial history. Outside, a hidden blue car installation garden pays homage to the neighborhood's history of auto repair. The exposed ceiling retains the original structure, serving both functional and narrative purposes, fostering an urban atmosphere blending street sensibility with playfulness.

Inspired by the lightness of Hanbok gauze, the second floor, themed as a "wardrobe," uses modular wooden display units to divide the space into several thematic "closets," each showcasing key items from different categories, merging playful retail strategy with visual storytelling. The adjacent space invites customers to freely explore, mix, and combine, as if walking through a quiet walk-in closet. A large fabric installation in the center, also inspired by Hanbok tassels, injects soft cultural imagery amidst the industrial texture. The third floor focuses on the "personalization" experience. Under the theme "For You, By Me," styles carefully curated by local fashion social media influencers and KOLs are displayed here, transforming the space into an intimate setting for self-expression and community interaction. The central fitting room breaks traditional retail space design and becomes the core area of the third floor, creating a runway-like circulation path with surrounding merchandise. Mirrored walls enhance the spatial immersion and interactivity. Each side outside the fitting room can individually present diverse and vibrant H&M narratives for creators and events.
