场地文脉与社区融合：该项目巧妙地将总部办公与体育馆功能植入一处棕地再开发的17英亩公园中，其核心设计理念是使建筑围绕公园空间组织，营造出庄严感，并确保公园区员工能时刻感受到“在公园中工作”的状态。公园小径的设计灵感来源于奥姆斯特德的景观系统，并与建筑交汇处扩大形成庭院，将自然光引入中心，成功地将公共服务设施、行政办公与社区休闲场所融为一体，实现了空间和功能上的高度渗透。

标志性形态与空间组织：总部大楼采用圆形的标志性平面布局，提升了公共机构的庄重感。设计上通过一条贯穿建筑、将总部和体育馆分隔开的公园小径，实现了清晰的功能区隔，同时又通过连接元素保持了整体性。二层办公空间巧妙地俯瞰下方的体育馆，极大地增强了工作人员对公园日常活动的感知。特别是员工休息室的战略定位，使其在休息时能够观察到下方的体育活动，体现了对使用者体验的深度关怀。

可持续性与在地材料的叙事：设计在材料运用上体现了强烈的在地性和可持续性。使用了从周边拆除建筑中回收的普通砖，强化了对场地文脉的尊重和棕地再开发的叙事。同时，采用青铜色玻璃幕墙和弧形金属屏风提升了建筑能效和视觉质感。室内家具和地板使用回收自受虫害树木的灰木，体现了对生态问题的积极回应，整体构建了一个既高效又富含地方故事的现代公共建筑范例。

The Chicago Park District Headquarters is an 80,000-square-foot building comprising headquarters office space for Chicago Park District staff and a 18,000-square-foot fieldhouse containing a gymnasium, fitness room, and club rooms. Located within a new 17-acre park in the Brighton Park neighborhood on Chicago's Southwest Side, the park was redeveloped on a brownfield site. Like many historic fieldhouses in Chicago, the headquarters building and fieldhouse are situated within the park and organized around it, giving the building a sense of gravitas. The building is designed so that Chicago Park District staff feel as if they are working in the park, maintaining close connection with the public they serve.

Ground Level Plan

The two-story headquarters building has a circular plan—an iconic shape suitable for an important public institution—that is bisected by a park path that separates the fieldhouse from the headquarters. The architects also master-planned the 17-acre park, whose path is inspired by Frederick Law Olmsted’s Chicago Park and Boulevard system, which connected large park areas through landscaped boulevards. Where the park path intersects the building, it widens to form two open-air courtyards, bringing light and air into the center of the building and creating outdoor spaces for gathering, recreation, and relaxation for both headquarters and fieldhouse staff and surrounding residents.

Upper Level Plan

The office space, available to 205 employees, is designed with alternating private offices, meeting rooms, and open office areas to support collaboration and provide future flexibility. The second-floor office space extends above the fieldhouse, offering views down into the gymnasium. The staff lounge is centrally located on the second floor, adjacent to a courtyard on one side and the fieldhouse on the other, allowing employees to watch basketball games while having lunch. Park District staff have direct access to the fieldhouse via an internal stair and elevator without needing to go outside. A covered outdoor terrace is located on the second floor, overlooking the adjacent park and fields. It is directly accessible from the fieldhouse below, or can be reserved for parties and events, or serve as casual space for staff gatherings or meetings.

Section A-A

Material selection for the building includes Chicago common brick recycled from two demolished buildings in the area, a design choice that embeds the local architectural culture and highlights the theme of reclaiming the site for the community. The building’s perimeter features a unitized glass system with bronze-colored glass, and curved metal screens made of champagne-anodized aluminum provide shading to improve energy efficiency while giving the building a distinctive appearance. The structure features a cost-effective system using steel joists spanning between parallel masonry bearing walls. A green roof system mitigates the urban "heat island" effect. Inside, furniture, wall treatments, and the fieldhouse floor are made from gray wood recovered from trees in the area afflicted by the Emerald Ash Borer.
