Designed by hcma architecture + design, the təməsew̓txʷ Community Centre welcomes people of all ages and abilities, focusing on connection, health-based activities, and more traditional sports and fitness. This all-electric facility is the first built structure in Canada to achieve the Zero Carbon Building Design Standard from the Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC). It is pursuing LEED Gold certification and utilizes a gravity-driven InBlue filtration system to reduce energy consumption, chlorine use, and harmful byproducts, thereby improving air and water quality.

Situated on the edge of a residential area on the north bank of the Fraser River, and at the former headwaters of the Glenbrook Ravine—a source of Indigenous cultural and economic life for millennia—the centre prioritizes harmony with the natural landscape. The facility merges with its surroundings to create an iconic urban image, featuring contrasting arrival experiences through two plazas. The South Plaza, adjacent to the restored ravine, is more ceremonial and natural, while the North Plaza, closer to the gymnasium, is more playful and urban. Both plazas connect to a vast, double-height main hall featuring a heavy glulam roof and a sculptural steel spiral staircase. A large public sculpture, "Miyiwts" (meaning "By the Water"), created by Squamish Nation artist James Harry, greets visitors in the hall, paying homage to the host Nation of these territories.

Inside, the East Wing houses a multi-use leisure pool topped by a large folding wood and steel beam roof, featuring lap lanes, spray features, and a lazy river, benefiting from indirect natural daylight that supports athletic performance. The fitness centre also offers varied views of the aquatic activities and outdoor space, enhancing the user experience. Public engagement shaped the facility’s design, ensuring it meets the needs of diverse user groups, including Urban Indigenous peoples, the Host Nation, multicultural communities, and accessibility committees. A naming advisory group of local and Urban Indigenous peoples named the centre təməsew̓txʷ. In the local Indigenous Downriver dialect (hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓), the name means 'Home of the Sea Otter,' chosen for the otter's playful, joyful, and family-centred nature.

Inclusive design and accessibility were central aspects of the facility’s planning and refinement, evident in spacious circulation areas, high-contrast signage including braille and tactile guides, full-service washrooms equipped with adult change tables and lifts, accessible ramps and zero-threshold entries to the leisure and family hot pools, and a transfer platform in the adult hot pool and a movable floor in the 50m pool. The project is set to receive a Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification Gold in the coming weeks.
