This school complex, located in the heart of Gradignan near Bordeaux in southwestern France, integrates the city's "Garden City" concept. Situated at the junction between the Parc du Repos Maternelle and a new residential area, the project creates a daily life setting at a child's scale, combining landscape integration, educational ambition, and sustainable construction.

For decades, Gradignan has been structured around a network of parks that organize residents' daily lives. This unique identity became the starting point for the project. The campus blends naturally into its surroundings with two large, overlapping zinc roofs, providing ample shelter for both interior and exterior spaces.

Inspired by traditional low-rise buildings, this architectural language creates a building that is recognizable, welcoming, and protective. It perfectly fits the world of children while maintaining a close dialogue with the surrounding landscape.

The project revolves around two complementary roofs. A long, low roof extends along the depth of the site, starting from Avenue Charles-et-Émile-Lestage, housing the nursery school. A second, higher and more vertical roof connects the new housing area to the park and incorporates the primary school and the multi-purpose hall.

The three main entrances, sheltered under the eaves of the roofs, make access intuitive and welcoming. The multi-purpose hall, open in the evenings and on weekends, reinforces the role of the school complex as a local community facility.

The project extends the park into the site: the landscape runs right up to the facade, existing trees are preserved, the site boundary is shaped by planted bioswales, and the natural topography is respected to maintain the conditions for vegetation.
