Renovating buildings with historical value is always a challenge. Balancing respect for history with new uses for contemporary life is both exciting and fascinating. The renovation of this 1930s house, in addition to preserving and highlighting its most characteristic elements, also aims to adapt the space to new uses.

The façade intervention sought to create a sharp contrast between the existing architecture and the new elements by stripping the bricks on the second floor. The new additions include sinuous blue metal elements that mark the two main entrances. These elements not only enhance the building's aesthetics but also solve some technical issues. This striking element was inspired by the foundation's name, "Remanso," which evokes a winding section of coastline or a quiet cove formed by a riverbank. This element segregates the flow of visitors heading to the gallery, which is accessed via stairs attached to the building, leading directly to the courtyard and shop.

Immersed in this artistic world, one finds fully equipped multipurpose exhibition spaces capable of hosting various forms of artistic expression. The Cultural Institute supports artists by providing well-lit studios with balconies overlooking the courtyard. In addition to these spaces, the institute features classrooms for courses, a reading room, a shop, administrative offices, and a large courtyard that will soon connect with the adjacent café’s courtyard.

The auditorium, with a capacity for 30 people, not only provides space for lectures, presentations, and cultural performances but also stands out for its unique integration with the outdoor environment. By opening the area behind the stage, the auditorium connects with the tiered seating in the courtyard, offering the audience a unique experience of seamless transition between indoor and outdoor activities.

The house’s courtyard is designed as an engaging, contemplative space, guiding users through sinuous flowerbeds. This space is versatile, hosting markets, events, and various cultural displays. The courtyard also features tiered seating, whose design invites people to pause and linger, echoing and extending the carefully sculpted curves of the landscape.
