可持续性的深度实践：项目在可持续性方面进行了深入的实践。轻盈的结构、半透明的聚碳酸酯外壳以及凹陷的天窗庭院，共同实现了对自然光的充分利用，降低了能源消耗。此外，建筑材料的选择也体现了可持续的设计理念，采用了本地生产、高回收率、耐用且维护成本低的材料，延长了建筑的生命周期，减少了环境负担。景观设计方面，选择耐旱的本地植物，降低了维护成本和水资源消耗。这些细节体现了建筑师在设计中对环境的责任感，将可持续性融入到建筑的每一个环节，值得肯定。

The Staten Island Animal Care Center has created a humane and controlled environment for animals awaiting adoption. The core of the design is a reversal of the layout of typical animal care facilities: animals are placed around the perimeter of the building, while offices and service functions are placed inside. Due to the staff spending most of their time with animals, this arrangement is beneficial for both parties.

Dispersing animals externally can to some extent avoid any interference caused by a single problematic animal. Meanwhile, sufficient natural light has a positive effect on their emotions. This social strategy, combined with a semi transparent appearance, creates a lively facade composed of animals. At night, the soft lights of the building illuminated this originally dark neighborhood.
将动物分散在外部可以在一定程度上避免由单个问题动物造成的任何干扰。同时充足的自然光对它们的情绪有积极作用。这种社会策略与半透明的外观相结合，创造了一个由动物们组成的活泼立面。到了晚上，建筑物柔和的灯光照亮了这个原本黑暗的街区。

This building adopts a very lightweight structure, wrapped in a highly insulated, semi transparent polycarbonate shell, maximizing the use of natural light. The sunken skylight courtyard incorporates sunlight from all directions into the building while creating natural ventilation conditions. This animal shelter does not recycle ventilation air, so heat can be recovered from exhaust gases.
这座建筑采用非常轻盈的结构，它被包裹在一个高度隔热、半透明的聚碳酸酯外壳中，最大限度地利用自然光。凹陷的天窗庭院将四面八方的太阳光纳入建筑中，同时创造自然通风的条件。此动物收容所不循环使用通风空气，因此可以从废气中进行热能回收。

The building is designed as a low budget, high-performance facility. The materials selected for use are locally produced, have high recycling rates, can withstand extensive use, and minimize long-term maintenance costs, thereby further enhancing the sustainability of the building's lifecycle. Landscape design follows similar principles, using drought resistant native plants to reduce maintenance costs and water usage.
