This project is a sauna facility located in Yamanaka Lake Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. As Mount Fuji and the site are located within a national park, the client, as the operator of the national park, needs to obtain approval from the Ministry of Environment for operation. According to the Natural Park Law, approval must meet three main restrictions: the building plan must be rectangular, the roof must adopt traditional shapes, and the glass area must not exceed half of the entire wall.

Despite the limited appearance of the building, the design team still hopes to make it a part of the landscape that is connected to the unique history of the region. The focus of the project is the concept of 'Kasa Cloud'. In the past, people predicted weather by observing the shape of shadow clouds over Mount Fuji. The design team integrated this relationship into the architectural design, conceptualizing a suspended roof structure that resembles a raised earth and towering mountains. To create a building that goes beyond simply imitating the landscape, the design team proposed a double layered space design that changes the way people perceive nature inside and outside the mountain, shifting their mindset from focus to relaxation.

The first floor is surrounded by walls, creating a peaceful and focused environment, like a place for meditation, with a sauna function mainly planned. The design is centered around a central sauna room, with a "mountain" shaped structure inclined at a certain angle to the walls, which not only transmits the axial force of the roof, but also forms a stairwell above each room. Skylights and ventilation openings are located at the top of the mountain, allowing natural light to flow into each room through the atrium and air to circulate within the mountain. Here, people can feel the movement of sunlight in the sauna, experience the coolness of groundwater in the water bath, and feel the circulation of wind in the indoor air bath.

After experiencing such a journey of exploring the inner space, when people climb up to the second floor, a pillar free and spacious space with a wide view on all sides is presented before them. Subsequently, under the white "umbrella clouds" surrounding the eaves, people sat on the "edges" of the tatami floor, with a polyhedral "mountain" shaped structure behind them. Through this spatial experience that conforms to the natural terrain, visitors are able to appreciate the beautiful natural scenery.
