Glasblokkene, located at the Howland University Hospital in Bergen, is an ambitious comprehensive pediatric and women's hospital where all specialized knowledge related to children, youth, and women is concentrated in a single facility. The comprehensive patient perspective covers both physical and mental challenges, tracking patients from a life course perspective until adulthood and innovating how to provide healthcare services to children. Glasblokkene consists of eight building modules, completed in two stages; The second phase will be unveiled in December 2023. This is one of the world's first fully digitized and resource efficient hospital construction projects. From the very beginning, there has been a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability, resulting in many green solutions and the best energy labels on the market.

Architectural Vision: The architectural concept focuses on creating a humanized and friendly environment. By breaking down the building into narrow tangent lines, the hospital blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment, allowing natural light to flow into the hospital. This design method ensures a humanized scale, allowing visitors to intuitively feel the warm and comfortable atmosphere inside. The blocks placed on the green slope strengthen the connection between the exterior and interior, introducing nature indoors and producing therapeutic effects.

The primary goal of Glasblokkene's child centered design is to enable children to still be children even when they become patients. The hospital has prioritized spaces for sports activities and relaxation, promoting an atmosphere that not only focuses on medical functions but also on health. The main entrance features a play area where active children can be seen through the windows upon arrival at the hospital, fostering positive energy.

Customized Interior Design
To enhance the overall experience, Glasblokkene uses warm, natural materials and vibrant colors to design customized furniture. All wards provide additional beds for parents or partners, reflecting thoughtful consideration for family needs. This personalized approach aims to minimize institutional features and create a space where patients, employees, and visitors can all thrive.

Liquidity and Functionality
The building module creates a clear guidance system for the public and staff, with each module assigned a unique color for indoor use to assist with guidance. These modules are interconnected through pedestrian walkways, and on the first floor, they are interconnected through lounges, auditoriums, and multifunctional gathering stairs. The materials used establish a clear connection between the exterior and interior.

Healing Garden and Art Fusion
Glasblokkene recognizes the benefits of nature and art in healing and incorporates them into design. Both the patient's room and public areas can enjoy the natural environment, which helps to reduce stress and improve happiness. The hospital's garden is planted with local vegetation, providing sensory experiences and opportunities for relaxation and exercise. The tactile art elements such as "pearls" scattered around the venue attract people to explore and create a fun and interactive environment. The integration of internal and external art enhances aesthetic appeal and increases opportunities for small adventures.
