Aceleradora at the La Paz Hospital in Madrid is the first of a series of exhibition halls promoted by the Unoencentenmil Foundation. It is part of a research project aimed at accelerating the recovery of childhood cancer through physical exercise. The exhibition hall is located on the roof of the hospital and can be accessed through a window on the ward tower. It is both an outdoor space and a new indoor space, integrating technology and imagination that are conducive to rehabilitation. Inpatients can temporarily escape the strict space and time regulations of the main building.

The accelerator exhibition hall consists of a series of spaces. Each space is slightly different, but together they form a unique space. The connection to the hospital tower is solved internally through a wooden ramp, which spans the facade in three sections and leads to the waiting pavilion. The next two spaces are dedicated to physical exercise; The first space is used for informal exercise and socializing, while the second space is larger with three skylights for exercising under the guidance of a therapist. Next is a research laboratory dedicated to collecting and measuring data generated by the activities carried out by the unit. The final space in this series is a covered outdoor terrace that can protect the laboratory from sunlight during summer and also accommodate a small garden of local species. The use of vegetation and indoor wooden finishes provides a peaceful and uplifting atmosphere for residents.

Due to the need to implement these research spaces in different hospitals in the future, the project needs to be understood as a composite system. By using unit catalogs with different internal and external decorations, as well as lighting control devices and other 'plugins', each project is a selection and combination of pre designed units. Therefore, each accelerator will become part of a common solution series and be adjusted according to the needs of different locations. Based on this concept, we propose an industrialized and modular building system. This also means that construction is mainly carried out off-site, avoiding the inconvenience that prolonged construction may cause to hospital operations. The appearance of the exhibition hall clearly conveys its combination and modular nature to the outside. The volume composed of geometric shapes intentionally contrasts with the surrounding environment, presenting a friendly and optimistic space.
