Brussels Core Area: Dialogue between Historical Heritage and Contemporary Design - On Grande Haie Street, a neighborhood that combines urban vitality and natural greenery, two residential buildings built between 1924-1925 have been revitalized through carefully balanced architectural interventions. This project includes 50 sets of social housing units, which not only shows respect for the existing architectural texture, but also clearly reflects the intention of improving the overall quality of the living environment through reasonable densification.

Rooted in historical architectural techniques
The street facing facade, as a symbol of 1920s architectural features, fully preserves the original style.. The project prioritizes fine restoration: replacing PVC windows with wooden window frames that are faithful to the original design, restoring the original entrance doors, and gently cleaning and preserving historical architectural elements. This protection measure reflects the vision of continuing with the regional social housing heritage.

The south facing layout at the rear of the building provides excellent conditions for natural lighting and spatial transparency, and the design fully responds to this. By reconfiguring the Mansart style roof and adding large areas of tiger windows, we not only respect the original building volume, but also improve space utilization, creating customized residences that meet the needs of the project.

Contemporary additions and vertical extensions
The rear of the building adopts a more modern architectural language, and the newly added volume naturally connects with the original structure.. The vertically extending part is covered with vertical seam zinc plate that echoes the original roof material, and the staggered arrangement of balconies injects dynamic rhythm into the rear facade. The carefully designed terrace not only provides valuable outdoor space for residents, but also serves as a sunshade facility, optimizing indoor comfort. The treated wooden veneer on the bottom layer naturally transitions with the garden landscape, integrating the newly added volume into the site environment.

Outdoor Space Reconstruction: Extension of Community Life
The green space behind the building has been transformed into a private garden, and winding pathways connect the stairwell with the shared courtyard.. The newly opened passage connects Rue Fort de Boncelles, optimizing pedestrian and cycling accessibility and promoting neighborhood interaction. The shared garden, recreational area, and sports field together form a landscape system, becoming a natural extension of residential space.
