The project involves a four household apartment building located in the suburbs. The venue is narrow, irregular in shape, almost triangular, with two intersecting roads at acute angles on both sides. According to the Building Standards Law, the north side road is a statutory road, while the south side passage is a culvert, so the road setback regulations only apply to the north side road.

Due to the limited space, it is not possible to install an elevator. Therefore, the entrance to the top floor apartment will be located on the fourth floor (the highest point that can be reached by stairs), and the fourth and fifth floors will be connected to create a duplex apartment. The plan and section of the building are both diagonally cut, and although the internal space is small, it has its own sense of depth, creating a unique spatial experience.

The building adopts a reinforced concrete wall structure, with a nearly triangular plan and openings at sharp corners. At first glance, the layout of the seismic walls may seem somewhat unbalanced, but the placement of external stairs helps to adjust the center of gravity and stiffness center.

In addition, the reinforced concrete staircase is supported by a 100mm square solid column that runs through the rest platform. The top roof is supported by a single point, like a balancing toy, so we installed T-shaped steel beams in the floor slab to enhance stability.
