Arthur Residence is designed for a finely decorated carpenter and emergency clinic doctor couple from South Africa who love gardening. This couple hopes to find a simple shelter with sufficient private space, where they can stay away from external disturbances and rest. They selected a fill plot near the city center of Regina, located in a mature community where small bungalows are rapidly being replaced by traditional residences. In contrast, the Arthur couple hopes to challenge this development trend with a thoughtful alternative plan.
阿瑟公寓（Arthur Residence）是为一对来自南非、热爱园艺的精装修木匠兼急诊室医生夫妇设计的。这对夫妇希望寻得一处简朴的庇护所，拥有充足的私人空间，能让他们远离外界纷扰、得到休憩。他们选中里贾纳（Regina）市中心附近的一块填充地块，该地块位于一个成熟社区，社区里的小平房正迅速被传统住宅所取代。相比之下，阿瑟夫妇希望以一种深思熟虑的替代方案来挑战这种开发趋势。

Usually, the retreat of small side courtyards will leave some unused or remaining space; And Arthur Apartment occupies the width of the entire plot. The fence blends seamlessly with the wall, and when viewed from the sidewalk, the entire house appears as a whole, with only one path leading to an opening.

Within this enclosed space, multiple courtyards have been developed from the overall plot: an entrance courtyard, a main garden, and a sunken terrace. The entrance hall, the space that integrates the living room and dining room, as well as various areas of the kitchen/multifunctional zone, all frame the view of these unexpectedly delightful pocket gardens from all sides of the house.
在这片围合空间内，从整体地块中开辟出多个庭院：入口庭院、主花园和一个下沉式露台。门厅、集客厅与餐厅为一体的空间以及厨房 / 多功能区的各个区域，都框定了从房屋四面望向这些意外之喜的袖珍花园的景观。

There are two independent bedroom suites on the upper level, which are accessed through different stairs: one is located above the lobby for guests to use; The other room is located above the kitchen and serves as the main bedroom. In addition, the owner also requested to add a two bedroom sub apartment underground, which has an independent passage leading from the street level along one side of the house, and can be accessed from a double decker garage through a sunken courtyard. This additional unit improves land use efficiency and provides the Arthur couple with the flexibility to rent for income or live together for multiple generations.

The main floor and the lower floor are designed with a series of walls and french window, which can appreciate the internal garden landscape; The second floor is a shelter from wind and rain, overlooking the surrounding community and tree canopy. The plaster and gypsum walls curve inward like open curtains. The twisted walls form triangular gaps, allowing sunlight to gently enter the room, while also creating right angled triangular gaps. These gaps are equipped with wooden frame windows that can be opened, handcrafted by the owner.
主层和下层采用一系列墙体和落地窗设计，可欣赏内部花园景观；而二层则是一个遮风避雨的庇护所，可俯瞰周边社区和树木冠层。灰泥和石膏墙面像拉开的窗帘一样向内弯曲。扭曲的墙面形成了三角形空隙，让日光柔和地洒进室内，同时还形成了直角三角形空隙，这些空隙安装了由业主亲手打造的、可开启的木框窗户。

In the double height living room and dining room, heaviness and lightness, liveliness and tranquility blend together. Smooth and contoured gypsum walls are placed on top of the original cast-in-place concrete, reflecting soft sunlight and enhancing the tactile and sensory characteristics of the materials, space, and light that make up the essence of the house. The subtle atmosphere created as a whole provides a place for people to relax and unwind after working for long hours in high-pressure occupations.
