From the architect. C.F. M ø ller Architects has transformed 36 Bellerive Street into a contemporary and climate friendly office building, fully demonstrating the firm's commitment to improving users' lives and protecting the planet. This office building, located in a prime location by Lake Zurich, was built in 1974 and was once considered outdated. However, it has now undergone modernization and meets contemporary sustainability standards while preserving its architectural heritage. The most significant achievement of this project is the integration of sustainable concepts with aesthetic and social values, transforming the originally closed structure into a vibrant, energy-efficient workplace.

One of the main challenges facing this project is to enhance environmental performance while preserving the original appearance of the building. For this purpose, the design team installed horizontal photovoltaic panels on the building facade. These panels can generate clean energy while serving as shading devices to reduce glare and prevent overheating inside the building. The panel is covered with color treated glass that matches the metal cladding, giving the building a fresh and modern look, blending seamlessly with the surrounding park landscape while providing a clear indoor view.

Inside the building, a new atrium connects offices and rental units, encouraging interaction and knowledge sharing between departments. This sunny space provides building users with a sense of identity and belonging, enhancing social sustainability. The atrium has also improved air circulation and natural lighting, creating a healthier and more pleasant working environment.

The renovation project also extends to the exterior of the building, transforming the existing stone terraces into green areas and integrating them with the park to facilitate rainwater management and promote biodiversity. These terraces provide pleasant spaces for employees to rest, enhancing their sense of happiness while also contributing to the local ecosystem.

The use of natural materials in buildings, such as elevator shafts and flooring made of wood, further highlights the architect's commitment to creating a warm and pleasant environment. Ultimately, this project represents a holistic approach in the field of architecture, striking a balance between aesthetic, social, and environmental values, and bringing lasting impact to users and the Zurich community.
