The area north of the center of Sarnen village, located between the Feld industrial zone, B ü nten residential area, and Sarnen Nord railway station, will be developed into a vibrant new type of work and residential area in the coming years. The newly completed Obwaldner Kantonalbank building marks the launch of this long-term residential development project in northern Saarland. This first building is located at the intersection of K ä giswilerstrasse and the new community street 'Im Feld', in the transitional zone between small-scale green residential areas and large commercial and service buildings. In the near future, more buildings will be erected on the site of the Upper Walden State Bank, which will together with the headquarters building form a charming architectural complex that integrates work, living, and open space. From the appearance, this new bank building presents a sturdy and sculptural structure. The exterior walls are decorated with finely structured dark wooden panels, while the bottom layer is supported by a sturdy concrete base, aiming to convey the concept of stability, regional characteristics, and diversity.

The new building serves as the headquarters of Obwaldner Kantonalbank, providing office space for approximately 160 employees, including independent offices and open plan office areas. For the convenience of contacting customers, the building is equipped with conference rooms and multifunctional halls for customer activities. In addition, the building is equipped with an internal buffet restaurant, bank exclusive annex rooms, and a parking lot. According to different usage functions, there are slight differences in the details of the wooden exterior walls, window design, and shading facilities between the two customer floors and the three employee floors above them.

The exposed wooden structure inside the building is a key structural element that defines the design style and shapes the architectural features. The concrete traffic core tube in the center of the building is surrounded by a frame structure consisting of columns and beams, all of which are made entirely of locally grown and processed oak and spruce wood. The lightweight structure of the wall is embedded within it, dividing each room. The construction equipment pipelines are arranged between the visible beams of the ribbed ceiling. The selected structural system optimizes material consumption and provides maximum flexibility for future use.

The ceiling sail, which can be freely suspended under the ribbed ceiling and integrated into the ceiling system, serves as the air conditioning function (ventilation/heating/cooling). The electrical circuit is flexibly laid inside the raised floor. Adopting reversible heat pumps/refrigerators for heating and cooling, using groundwater as energy source. The roof is equipped with a flat and inclined photovoltaic system.
