The newly built Monio High School and Cultural Center is located in the former military base area next to the center of Hyryl ä town. Monio's architectural design interprets the characteristics of its surrounding historical environment and creates a landmark building that connects the developing area with the town center. Mourinho can be regarded as the most important public building in Tuusula.

Monio can be regarded as a model of public building concept shared by multiple user groups. In addition to being mainly used as a high school during the day, the space of the building is also used by local music schools, art schools, community colleges, and municipal cultural service departments. By integrating the functions of different users into one building, all users can obtain better quality space than when built separately, achieving more space benefits with fewer resources. The shared building model also encourages mutual communication and cooperation among different users. Monio has coffee shops, gallery spaces, and hosts various events open to the public. We sincerely welcome all citizens to visit.

Monio continues the long-standing tradition of building with logs in the surrounding areas of Tuusula Lake. The historic wooden buildings in the region include, for example, several villas owned by Finnish national artists by the lake. The golden age of Finnish art originated from artists gathering in the Tusoula Lake region to exchange ideas and work together. Similarly, Monio also provides space for its users to gain inspiration, express themselves, and learn from each other through practice and exploration.

Monio is Finland's first three story timber framed public building and a new type of timber architecture that combines other timber construction methods with timber frames. This project can be seen as a bold experiment in the application of industrial logs on a large public building scale. Its architectural design is deeply rooted in the materials themselves, more specifically, in the use of logs. The building consists of six connected wooden houses that surround a tall internal street network, forming the main hall. The exterior walls and partition walls facing the interior of the wooden house are constructed using 275mm thick cross laminated non settling logs. There is no need to add additional insulation materials to the exterior walls, as the thick wooden structure not only forms the load-bearing structure but also serves as insulation, and is the inner and outer surface of the wall after completion. The project won the "Construction Site of the Year Award" in 2022 and the "Finnish Wood Award" in 2023.
