Andre Kong's studio has completed the "Studentville" project, which is a new dimension in Lisbon's architectural style and redefines the standards of student accommodation. The student apartment complex is located in the vibrant neighborhood of Palma de Baixo, close to the Catholic University (Universidade Cat ó lica). This project sets a new benchmark for design oriented living spaces, with its meticulous design aimed at enhancing students' living experience.

This design draws inspiration from the surrounding traditional white buildings and the architectural context of using local clay trench tiles. Andre Kong Studio has combined these two traditional elements to develop a customized white glazed ceramic tile. This use of ceramic materials also symbolizes a tribute to the historical background of the site, which is adjacent to the site of the Viuva Lamego ceramic factory in the 1930s. These tiles can reflect solar heat and create ventilated facades, not only improving the energy efficiency of the building, but also creating a visual dialogue with smaller local buildings in the surrounding area, standing out among other newly built residential buildings in the area and becoming a modern and sensitive design landmark.

This building is envisioned as a student dormitory, with each room having its own roof that seamlessly blends with the facade, as if growing naturally from the ground. Its volume design features segmented and angled blocks, presenting a dynamic three-dimensional form. This design not only maximizes the introduction of natural light, but also optimizes the layout of rooms on challenging plots.

The Studentville area embodies the vision of creating a tightly knit community under the same roof, offering 52 rooms with independent bathrooms, providing students with a living environment that combines high standards of comfort and design. Each room is equipped with a private balcony, shower, storage space, and a double bed, and can share common spaces such as a gym, game room, leisure terrace, and swimming pool. The social core of this project is a double layered high rise kitchen and living area, equipped with tiered seating, aimed at promoting social interaction and creating a sense of belonging. The interior design showcases customized birch plywood with built-in furniture, including a reception desk that echoes the building's stepped volume. Each room number is illuminated by roof tile lights embedded in the wall, further enhancing the continuity of the project's exterior theme indoors. This interior design embodies the pursuit of necessary durability and ensures the coherence of the aesthetic style of the entire building.

Sustainability is an essential part of Studentville's design philosophy. The reflective tiles on the building facade can reduce the cooling demand, while the solar panels on the south facing roof provide hot water for the private bathroom rooms. A large underground bicycle parking space encourages students to ride, highlighting the commitment of Andre Kong Studio and the Studentville project to eco-friendly architecture. The project was developed in collaboration with local site architect OCO and received support from Teixeira Trigo (responsible for structural and civil engineering), Graucelcius (responsible for environmental consulting), and 2H (providing expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering).
