Klaus Carson Studio, a Sydney based architecture and interior design company, has completed the design and construction of Ironbark House. This is a minimalist style seaside farmhouse that cleverly addresses the challenges of a bushfire prone area on the south coast of New South Wales with its calm demeanor and keen perception of materials.

The site requires us to adopt a cautious and pragmatic approach, "explained Klaus Carson Studio." From terrain conditions to regulatory limitations, the various constraints that exist on the site have become the cornerstone of architectural design. These factors prompt us to examine every decision from the perspectives of sustainability, practicality, and respect for the landscape

The exterior of the building is made of corrugated zinc aluminum magnesium alloy sheet (Zincalume), which is chosen for its durability and ability to capture constantly changing coastal light in subtle ways. The locally sourced Spotted gum and sandstone (where sandstone is directly extracted from the site) add a warm texture, tactile experience, and a sense of stability rooted in the building. The selection of these materials is not only based on their performance, but also takes into account how they will withstand natural forces and undergo changes over time.

In the Ironbark House project, Klaus Carson Studio explored the concept that true resilience lies within simplicity. The studio designs according to the terrain conditions, rather than competing with them. The final presentation of the residence appears naturally natural in its environment - simple, humble, enduring, and standing confidently and low-key in the environment.
