In this project, the design team is based on this deeply rooted land and embarking on a creative journey. Le Corbusier once elevated functionality to a whole new level and redefined the bottom layer as the service layer, inspiring the design team with his philosophy. Based on this, the design team planned the core functional areas at the bottom level: car and bicycle parking space, entrance hall, cloakroom, laundry room, utility room, storage area, office area, and indoor garden.

The first floor is designed specifically for relaxation and bathing, while the second floor is designed as a living space with a spacious terrace. Given that the existing house faces north, the design team focuses on maximizing the use of sunlight and light. The newly added top floor is open to the south to fully absorb natural light.

This architectural renovation is like a parchment that has been written and can be rewritten, achieving a delicate balance between reuse and renewal. The design team has preserved the original monastery atmosphere while injecting new vitality into the space. The project builds a brand new world on a profound historical foundation, achieving harmonious coexistence between protection and innovation. The design team strives to reuse existing technologies as much as possible and introduces new technologies when necessary to meet the demands of intensive living and working in urban environments.

The design team has preserved everything of value to the greatest extent possible. A small garden with green plants and chickens adds a touch of rural atmosphere to urban life. This house has three facades - a square facade, a street facade, and a garden facade, each providing a unique experience. On one side of the square, the renovated part is extremely exquisite, almost invisible, making the church the visual focus. On one side of the street, the overhanging volume is particularly prominent, forming a wonderful dialogue with the ancient church facade, adding unexpected tension to the street landscape.

From the interior, the presence of the church is extremely strong, as if it is within reach, becoming a part of the space. Therefore, the design team chose to use glass to create a completely transparent volume, integrating light, landscape, and history to form a unique whole. This project symbolizes the deep symbiosis between the past and the future, the city and greenery, and the history and modernity.
