Our reflection on business is what kind of architecture and interior effects should be presented in small courtyards near the Guomao CBD in Beijing to compete with the surrounding chain coffee brands and boutique coffee shops, not only attracting people, but also making them stay and willing to consume multiple times. So we proposed the idea of "building a greenhouse in Beijing CBD", which is quite contrasting with performance art, and introduced the garden into the indoor rest area.

This case is located at No. 17 Jianguomenwai Street, Chaoyang District, Beijing, in the garden of Beijing Friendship Store. It was once an old equipment room of Friendship Store and has been abandoned for a long time. How to transform a poorly maintained equipment building into a trendy coffee shop is extremely challenging.

Through multiple deliberations on the space through the model, it was found that opening up the top and sides of the building, introducing sunlight and tree shadows, allows the abandoned building to coexist with the natural environment again. The sunlight scatters through the treetops, forming mottled light and shadow on the ground. Each ray of light falls on the tired soul, presenting a beauty that transcends time and space. Create a unique scene of a coffee shop under the shade of trees.

The top side is open with the original building corridor as the boundary, the front is a guest area that is open and bright with modern elements, and the logistics space retains its enclosed features and old brick exterior walls with historical imprints.
The most fatal problem with the curved roof glass "greenhouse" is that it is not suitable for prolonged sitting due to excessive sunlight in summer. The design solves this problem from three aspects: 1) structural shading. Reduce the glass area in terms of design, retaining only the intersecting part with the tree crown.
2) Stretch the mesh filter. A layer of aluminum tension mesh is laid along the curved top of the indoor ceiling to soften direct sunlight, which not only provides a certain shading effect but also hides some unsightly structural joints

In spatial design, the integration of "historical fragments" is used as a clue, and through selective extraction, modern translation, and scene based recombination of historical relics, historical memories, and cultural symbols, the space becomes a "touchable historical narrative carrier". This approach preserves the warmth of history while avoiding the heaviness of retro design, allowing modern spaces to form a "dialogue" with the past rather than a "replica".
