The eaves of the bamboo hat were used by ancient people to protect the pavilion from wind and rain, and to shield it from the scorching sun within ten miles; The hat is reminiscent of its function of providing shelter from rain and sun; The eaves are the main architectural form of this design. ——Li Yan is the name given by his friend Zhou Bo for his work. The design of the eaves of the hat originated from the invitation of her friend Yuan Hua, who took over a flower and plant shop. The storefront left by the previous owner already has a certain visual quality. The main demand for the new storefront is to block the strong summer sunlight for the flowers and plants placed outside; At the same time, a small corner can be created on one side of the wall for resting.

Huazhi shop is located in the south of the Pearl River Road, the center of the old city of Nanjing. The Ji'e Lane where it is located is a traditional street space in Nanjing. There are many shops on the ground floor of residential buildings on both sides of the street. In recent years, with the popularity of internet famous shops, the shops near Hongmiao and Taiping North Road on both sides of Chicken Goose Lane have been continuously upgraded. However, the middle of the alley is still dominated by hardware, grocery, tobacco and alcohol shops, with low quality and declining business formats; But it is mostly open for residents, with harmonious coexistence between neighbors and a relaxed atmosphere filled with smoke and fire on the streets and alleys. The Weixing Architecture team enjoys observing and reading the city in their daily lives, and actively practices small updates. Therefore, they are delighted to embark on this interesting construction attempt with the goal of revitalizing themselves in three days.

Facing the present (about the choice of construction form)
The residential building to which Kasai eaves belong was built in the 1980s and 1990s, and has a typical appearance of that era with simple and unremarkable shapes;; It is also overlaid with traces of residents' additions, repairs, and new government actions from different periods, presenting a visual state of randomness and disorder. The most direct response to construction is to avoid touching the original building too much; At the same time, in terms of visual presentation, we want to choose a warm atmosphere with a certain affinity and handmade traces to respond to the spatial scale and visual density of traditional street and alley environments.

The concept of form originates from its functional demands: to stand out and provide shade. The flower planting shop was originally built using walls and residential courtyards on the ground floor, and the roof and facade do not have the load-bearing capacity for pasting. The direct response to the current situation is to cross the threshold of the status quo and take root from the bottom of the second floor balcony of the main residential building in the rear. After the overhang is completed at the top of the door, the sunshade surface naturally adopts a downward hanging method, and the logical form of the hat eaves is thus generated.

Industrial Materials and Handmade
To achieve the goal of rapid and independent construction, we choose a wooden structure solution that is easy to process by hand.. All components have a uniform cross-section, and commonly used square timber in the market is selected. The length is cut by the manufacturer according to the drawings and assembled on site using bolt connections.

The production of sunshade fan blades also benefits from the application of industrial materials. Each sunshade fan is composed of a main and a sub frame, which is wrapped in hollow rattan and fixed on the main frame. The main and auxiliary frames are customized by the oil painting frame manufacturer, with precise size and shape, reliable nodes, effectively reducing the difficulty of on-site processing, saving time, and controllable cost.

Node density and visual perception
The warm temperament conveyed by wood complements the natural atmosphere of the flower shop. We use small section short components to increase the number of nodes, hoping that pedestrians can fully perceive the texture and granularity of the components at close range, enhance visual retention, and more vividly convey a warm and relaxed atmosphere.. The end nodes are connected, and the overlapping members protrude layer by layer, embodying the unique charm of traditional Chinese wooden construction.
