The Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning (referred to as the "two museums") is located in the Futian Cultural Center District of Shenzhen. It is an important platform for the dissemination, inheritance, and construction of contemporary art and urban culture in Shenzhen, and one of the most important large-scale public cultural buildings in the central area of Shenzhen. The building was designed by the Austrian architectural firm Coop Himmelb (l) au, adopting a comprehensive operation model of "two museums in one", integrating the two independent functional organizations of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) and the Urban Planning Museum (MOUP), while sharing some public service spaces. As a window cultural landmark of Shenzhen, the two pavilions not only showcase the development history, construction achievements, and future vision of Shenzhen's urban planning, but also promote academic exchanges in urban planning and architectural design, and provide a core public platform for citizens to understand, learn, and participate in planning. Since its official opening to the public in 2017, the two museums have become internationally influential contemporary art institutions and academic exchange platforms for urban planning and architectural design. However, with the diversification of contemporary art forms and the changing demand for urban planning exhibitions, the existing exhibition facilities and technological means in the museum are no longer sufficient to support new exhibition needs. It is particularly necessary to carry out corresponding renovations and upgrades, enhance the interaction between exhibitions and audiences, and improve the exhibition experience to adapt to the diversity of future exhibition activities.

In the renovation and upgrading strategy of the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning, PILLS has adopted multiple design strategies tailored to local conditions based on thorough research and understanding of the pain points of existing exhibition spaces. Through an L-shaped suspended light box system perpendicular to the exhibition wall, PILLS has established a flexible information interface; Transforming the monotonous and flat exhibition wall into a dynamic and staggered one, creating a dynamic and dynamic spatial rhythm. Emphasis is placed on the design of detachable exhibition booths to form a flexible exhibition structure, effectively achieving the reorganization of exhibition area functions and spatial enhancement.
