The history of Dongguan Street in Dalian can be traced back to the 1920s. According to the "Xigang Cultural and Historical Materials", there is a raised small earth hill in the north section of Beijing Street, west of Qingniwa Bridge in Dalian, commonly known as "Xiaogangzi" by the people. Dalian was successively colonized by Russia and Japan, and Xiaogangzi developed into Dalian's "Chinese Commercial Street", later renamed Dongguan Street. This case is located at No. 24 Xigang Street, Dongguan Street, Dalian. It was built in the 1920s and is a historical protected building that has witnessed the changes of Dalian over the past century. The architectural appearance resembles Japanese style European style architecture, and the space adopts the traditional Chinese courtyard layout. The exterior is decorated with granite lintels, red bricks, vintage doors and windows, and European carved flowers; There is a spacious courtyard inside.

1. Space Reshaping - Connecting the Space
The first and second floors of the building are presented in a narrow strip shape with a three sided enclosure. By rearranging the spatial order and opening the door opening, the three originally independent spaces are connected. Soft natural light is introduced into the interior space of the first and second floors through the door opening. The first floor historical museum space is dark and immersive, while the second floor mansion is warm and friendly for visitors. Passing through the door opening, the view suddenly becomes clear.

2. Utilize the gaps in old buildings - embedding historical memory into window openings. Increasing exhibition shelves will inevitably make the space more cramped and crowded. The natural layout of window openings in the building itself, with a wider depth, is a natural exhibition platform. By using the window openings in old buildings, without damaging the original historical structure, embedding the historical display function of Dongguan Street, creating a new exhibition space, and increasing the rhythm of the exhibition space.

3. Immersing the Mansion - Reproducing the Prosperous Back of the Past
Due to the unique historical background of Dongguan Street, red bricks, European carvings, and retro doors and windows constitute its unique Japanese style European style architecture. The indoor space extends its retro tone, using mosaic wood flooring, retaining a series of retro window openings, wooden decorative wall skirts, and retro ceiling soft lighting to create an immersive atmosphere for the mansion, reproducing the former charm of Dongguan Street.
