Mosca Bianca Ceramic Workshop/AACM - Atelier Architettura Chinello Morandi
AACM - Atelier Architettura Chinello Morandi

From the architect. Mosca. Bianca is a workshop designed as an exhibition space. This is a ceramic workshop, where a sculptural volume showcases the entire process of terracotta craftsmanship. The shape of this volume is like clay molded on a pottery turntable, winding and twisting down from the ceiling. The centripetal force contained in the design shape fills the entire space with tension, creating a unique atmosphere around a single top light. In the space, a seemingly integrated exhibit display stand stands diagonally, like a sacred object, perfectly aligned with the three-dimensional shaped lighting fixtures above.
Mosca.

Upon closer inspection, this' giant rock 'demonstrates its independence, forming a sharp contrast with the surrounding three-dimensional space, resembling a delicately constructed and lightweight piece of furniture. Once the side panel is opened, rows of work chairs are exposed, exhibiting a nested, layered and interwoven characteristic. After removing the seats, the table itself transforms into a building within a building - a slender tabletop made of Oguman wood panels, suspended in the air and supported by a series of T-shaped frames, challenging the law of gravity like a beam.

If the top countertop material is designed to meet the actual needs of dough processing, then the texture of the walls and ceiling has symbolic significance. The rammed earth mortar made from clay and brick production waste symbolizes the endless life cycle of terracotta and embodies its concept of continuous reuse and recycling. However, not all functions are fully visible. In order to maintain narrative consistency, the styling tools are cleverly hidden behind metal blades, like a theatrical stage backdrop, covered with curtains, and only displayed when necessary for workshop activities.

Mosca.Bianca space tells the story of the handmade process of dancing with clay. At first, it was as simple and unadorned as mortar; Subsequently, it gradually takes shape in the hands of craftsmen, evolving into the unique form of the roof that emerges from the center, and the work shines brightly on the walls or exhibits.
Mosca.Bianca
