This is a hotel converted from the Sukiya style architecture in Kyoto. The existing building was built in 1920, and its carpenters were craftsmen who had built numerous tea houses in the Gion area of Kyoto. The owner is recorded as a master of tea ceremony. In the tea ceremony records at that time, this building was described as a venue for holding tea ceremonies.
这是一家由京都数喜屋风格(Sukiya-style)建筑改建而成的酒店。现存建筑建于 1920 年,其木匠是曾在京都祇园地区建造过众多茶室的匠人,而业主则被记载为一位茶道大师。当时的茶道记录中,曾将这座建筑描述为举办茶道的场所。

The site is narrow and elongated from north to south, with the buildings located on the west side of the site and the garden on the east side. Each room is equipped with a large opening, allowing for a view of the garden. The unique irregular layout of Sukiya style architecture blends seamlessly with the garden, creating a harmonious spatial combination.
该场地南北向狭长,建筑布局于场地西侧,而花园则位于东侧。每间房间都设有大型开口,可由此观赏花园景色。数喜屋风格(sukiya-style)建筑特有的不规则平面布局,使得这座建筑与花园融为一体,构成了一个和谐的空间组合。

This building should be preserved as much as possible, but the installation of hotel equipment is essential. Normally, ceilings are replaced to accommodate lighting, air conditioning, and firefighting equipment. However, in Sukiya style architecture, the ceiling design is unique, and replacing it may reduce the value of the building. Therefore, the design team did not modify the ceiling for lighting purposes, but instead replaced existing lighting equipment and minimized the number of newly installed tube lights. At the same time, they ensured sufficient illumination by installing indirect lighting at the floor furniture and openings described below. The air conditioning equipment is not installed on the ceiling, but instead uses floor standing and wall mounted air conditioners. In addition, a ventilation fan is installed as part of the built-in furniture, integrating it with the space.
这座建筑应尽可能予以保留,但酒店设备的安装又必不可少。通常情况下,为了容纳照明、空调和消防设备,天花板会被更换。然而,在数喜屋风格(sukiya-style)建筑中,天花板设计独具特色,更换它很可能会降低建筑的价值。因此,设计团队没有为照明而改动天花板,而是替换了现有的照明设备,并尽量减少新装筒灯的数量,同时通过在下文所述的地面家具和开口处安装间接照明的方式,确保了足够的照度。空调设备也没有安装在天花板上,而是采用了落地式和壁挂式空调,此外还安装了一台通风扇,并将其作为内置家具的一部分,使其与空间融为一体。

The design team is not only committed to preserving the original design, but also strives to make the existing design look more beautiful. Windows require the installation of louvers, so indirect lighting was installed on the ceiling side where the louver box was installed to illuminate the existing ceiling. Due to the fact that most of the floors are covered with tatami mats, the wires that usually pass through the ceiling are moved to the bottom of the floor. At the same time, switches and underfloor heating controllers are installed as furniture like pillars in necessary positions, thus preserving the original appearance of the earthen wall.
设计团队不仅致力于保留原有设计,还努力让现有设计看起来更加美观。窗户需要安装百叶窗,因此在安装百叶窗盒的天花板一侧安装了间接照明,照亮了现有的天花板。由于大部分地面都铺有榻榻米垫,通常穿过天花板的电线被移到了地板下方,同时将开关和地暖控制器作为类似家具的立柱安装在必要位置,从而保留了土墙的原貌。

In addition, the design team also installed new furniture, but these new pieces are made of oak and have different materials and colors from the existing furniture. This way, people can notice the addition of new furniture and visually present the relationship between old and new, aiming to leave a clean impression on guests. The bathroom and toilet also follow the same design concept, equipped with oak furniture, Japanese cypress walls and ceilings, and tempered glass openings. From the main bathtub, one can overlook the small courtyard garden on the west side through a glass window.
此外,设计团队还安装了新家具,但这些新家具采用橡木制成,其材质和颜色均与现有家具不同,这样一来,人们便能注意到新增了家具,新旧之间的关联也得以直观呈现,旨在给客人留下整洁的印象。浴室和洗手间也遵循了同样的设计理念,配备了橡木家具、日本柏木墙壁和天花板,以及钢化玻璃开口。从主浴缸处,透过一扇玻璃窗可以眺望西侧的小庭院花园。

From a structural perspective, after calculation, it has been determined that the retaining wall of the main room should be preserved as much as possible, while adding damping metal fittings and seismic resistant wall panels to gently reinforce the building structure. In this way, the entire design process upholds respect for the existing building from beginning to end, and during the construction process, meticulous confirmation and decisions are made on color matching and detail textures. By retaining the original elements or making moderate additions that blend with the original style, the existing spatial layout and design can be maintained, ultimately creating a new accommodation environment that retains the original charm and is comfortable and pleasant.
从结构角度来看,经过计算确定,要尽可能保留主房间的土墙,同时添加阻尼金属配件和抗震土墙板,以温和地加固建筑结构。如此一来,整个设计过程自始至终都秉持着对现有建筑的尊重,并且在施工过程中,对色彩搭配和细节纹理都进行了细致的确认与决定。通过保留原有元素,或是进行与原有风格相融合的适度增添,现有的空间布局与设计得以保持不变,最终打造出一处既保留原有韵味又舒适宜人的新住宿环境。
