From the architect. B131 Cafe was designed by Jiang Jie Design Firm as a supporting space for Brita131 Art Museum, located within the BAC Art Community in Zhuantang, Hangzhou. The project creates an independent and open social space in the city with a clear geometric order and lightweight structural strategy. The building is located at the eastern end of the square on the north side of BAC Art Community, facing the open square and distant Xiangshan on the west side, adjacent to the green belt of the park boundary on the east side, and maintaining a suitable distance from the city street on the south side through a small forest. The openness of the site and the surrounding natural environment make the building both hidden in the city and a visual focal point.
The design strategy of the project is based on basic geometric forms, constructing clear building volumes with square planes. The building adopts a lightweight steel structure system, wrapped with anodized aluminum tiles to achieve a lightweight visual effect, while emitting a soft halo at night, becoming a warm symbol of the site.
The building consists of a framework consisting of 12 columns and beams, with a grid of columns and beams that not only serves the structural function but also shapes the spatial experience. The pillar becomes a part of the space, defining the seating area and guiding the flow of people. The top square skylight introduces natural light, creating different spatial atmospheres through the flow of light and shadow throughout the day. The interior walls are wrapped in wooden materials to enhance the sense of enclosure, presenting a "shelter like" atmosphere in urban environments. The bar counter is located in the center of the space, with sunlight pouring down from the top, and the interaction between baristas and customers becomes part of the spatial narrative.
B131 Cafe is very restrained in its opening design, only intervening in key directions to create a precise viewing angle: facing the square and Xiangshan on the west side, it has a whole low window, and four movable windows can be opened to the maximum in warm weather, blurring the indoor and outdoor boundaries. At dusk, the ridge of Xiangshan outside the window becomes the background of the space. There is a slender opening on the north side, through which the street can be seen through the small forest, and pedestrians in the distance can also vaguely glimpse the activities inside the house, stimulating the desire to explore.
These openings create a subtle connection between the building and the external environment while maintaining a sense of enclosure.

B131 Cafe is not only a supporting space for art museums, but also a miniature shelter in urban environments. Its form is concise, the structure is lightweight, and while controlling the relationship between scale and materials, it provides a new spatial experience. Through precise control of structure, lighting, and materials, architecture creates a place for people to stay, communicate, and observe, allowing them to find temporary tranquility in urban environments.
As an important component of the entrance space of BAC Art Community, the significance of B131 Caf é is not limited to its functional role, but also lies in its social expression as a "micro architecture". Although the building area is small, it reflects a complete construction logic and spatial philosophy through precise control of form and experience. Its lightweight construction method and sustainable material strategy also echo the overall renewal concept of the community: using minimal intervention to maximize the social potential of the space. B131 Cafe responds to the spatial overlap between "art daily public" with a restrained, gentle yet clear architectural posture, providing a new interpretation for the cultural micro landscape in the city.
