This residence boasts a beautiful garden view, composed of interlocking blocks of different materials. These overlapping forms define the exterior contour of the building, ensuring privacy while creating a rich and warm sense of space inside. The appearance of the building is like opening arms to protect the fields, hence the name "Pojeon jip", which means "a house embracing the fields".

The plot of land was originally a 400 ping (approximately 1300 square meters) farmland at the foot of the mountain, cultivated by a retired husband and wife who took care of the land carefully for more than ten years. This beloved vegetable garden is both a place for them to rest and a playground for them to play. They hope that their retirement life can be centered around this land, so they request to build a residential building on a part of it.

When first visited, this site was like an open and unobstructed space, so how to ensure privacy became one of the main challenges facing the design. To address this issue, we propose to overlap the building volume with the site boundary, allowing the fence to naturally connect with the exterior wall. This strategy creates a sense of spatial density, although the footprint is limited, the vertical extension and the extension of the building's outer contour enhance the spatial scale and visual openness.

The design of the walls and roof is based on a 600 × 1200mm template module, with the main walls and roof height set uniformly at 2400mm to maintain overall consistency and order. As a result, a deliberate rhythm change was formed at the material handover point. These rhythmic changes create a visual depth that makes the blocks and planar elements appear to overlap with each other, forming a rich spatial hierarchy experience.

The building presents a sturdy fortress like appearance in an embracing posture, while the interior frames the scenery of forest hills like concrete frames. By integrating farming with daily life, residents can be closely connected to nature and spend time together.

Baotian is a home where farming and living coexist. It is both a peaceful haven for this couple and a carrier of their memories. At the same time, it also creates an organic space for multi generational living together - where life flows with the fragrance of the earth.
