By passing through the Tingtangwei Bridge and crossing the Qujiang River, one can reach Tingtangwei Village. Adjacent to the highway along the river, living in the village and cultivating rice fields outside the village have formed a stable living scene in Tingtangwei Village. Each household in the village has a house and an irregular front yard, which serves as both a courtyard and a sun drying area. The shape of the courtyard is drawn by interwoven village roads and paths, which are formed by long-term neighborhood relationships. The seemingly intricate road system and the orientation of self built houses are actually spatial reflections of the rural social structure.

The Jingshi Guang Art Ecological Corridor starts from here and unfolds along the Qujiang River, which was formerly known as Jingshui. It is dotted with works by numerous artists and architects, attracting tourists and bringing some changes to the lives of villagers. At the entrance and exit of the village, there is also such a household, including an old house from the late Qing Dynasty, a courtyard, a tree, and a kitchen that was added in the 1990s. Here, Tao+C Xitao Design Studio has designed a lightweight foothold that serves as both a rest and guide for the entire Shikigara sightseeing route, as well as a place for villagers to rest and chat when entering and leaving the village. Becoming a shared village pavilion for local residents and passersby, allowing different groups of people to meet and communicate freely here.

The sloping and wedge-shaped courtyard is bounded by the shared courtyard walls and old houses along the river road, village road, and neighboring houses, forming different angles for each. Along the outline of the courtyard, the designer wraps a lightweight single column canopy around the perimeter to form a circular corridor. The inner eaves take the angle of the neighbor's courtyard wall as the axis and cut out a rectangular courtyard, forming a 5 ° angle with the main house of the Qing Dynasty. This slight deviation allows the courtyard to act as a buffer between the highway and the main house, filtering out the noise and allowing the river breeze to pass through, while also avoiding conflicts with the old house.

The four eaves of the corridor are divided into three different heights; The rain eaves fall layer by layer, responding to different usage needs and surrounding environments, as if dancing in sync with the venue. On the side close to the village road, the corridor passes through and diagonally cuts open the original kitchen, forming the window of the caf é. Then it slightly lowers to form an entrance towards the highway, guiding people to look back at the river view from inside the courtyard. The corridor next to the neighbor's boundary wall is lower and hidden under the tree canopy, maintaining the privacy between the neighborhood courtyards; Turning back to the front of the Qing Dynasty architecture and connecting it with the eaves of the old house, it is compressed into a line from the perspective of the courtyard entrance, without damaging the appearance of the main house facade.

The interior of the old house is used as a tourist reception center. A century old wooden house with mottled walls and slightly tilted wooden columns, showing traces of years of living. The renovation of old houses is a negative strategy, using but not occupying, placing but not renovating; Not erasing the traces, nor changing the aging process of the old house, but accompanying its changes and decline. Remove the filled wooden wall panels and wooden floor slabs, allowing the skeleton of the old building - wooden beams and rafters - to be clearly visible. A set of slender galvanized steel pipes passes through the gaps between the wooden frames, forming an internal framework display system, seats, and lighting; This light steel frame parasitic in the old house is intertwined with the old wooden structure, lightly touching but not damaging. The ground is covered with a shiny black epoxy resin floor, indicating that all newly installed materials are smooth and shiny, making the original appearance of the house clear and recognizable but reshaping the perception.

The materials used for the corridor and internal placement are industrial standardized galvanized square pipes and stainless steel corrugated plates, which can be purchased from building materials stores in the town and cut and welded on site. Similar to the overlapping methods of some roofs and temporary sheds in the village, these simple materials and unconventional methods help establish a sense of security, allowing new interventions to disappear into the daily scenery of a Chinese countryside.

In this rural renovation project, we cautiously maintained the consciousness of an outsider, taking it lightly, reducing expression, and finding a balance between rewriting and preservation through moderate intervention. As a reversible temporary structure, it reserves the possibility for the future evolution of the building.
