打破传统边界的创新设计： 该项目最大的创新在于打破了传统学术空间的界限，将其转化为一个开放、包容的社区中心。通过对露台的改造，引入遮阳篷设计，创造了适应当地气候的公共活动空间。更重要的是，该项目没有设置传统的入口和主门，增强了建筑的开放性和可达性，使得学生和社区居民都可以自由地进入和使用这些空间。这种设计理念，将建筑视为连接学术与社区的桥梁，打破了传统校园建筑的封闭性，也为玛尼帕尔的城市发展注入了新的活力，并对未来校园设计提供了新的思路。

Prerequisite: Reading City - Manipur is a modern city located on the southern coast of India, which began its development in 1953 with a population ranging from 2000 to 5000 people. The foundation of development here was laid by Dr. T.M.A. Pai, who was committed to building Manipal into an educational center. Nowadays, Manipal has approximately 25000 to 30000 students, accounting for about 50% to 60% of the city's total population. With the rapid development of infrastructure, urban structures have gradually become rigid, lacking social spaces that meet the needs of young and mobile populations. To address this issue, the TAPMI Sustainable Development Center is redesigning academic spaces with the aim of alleviating this imbalance.

Venue and Environment - The Inclusive Growth and Collaboration Center is located on TAPMI's 40 acre campus, situated on a small hill overlooking picturesque valleys and lush green forests. The center covers an area of 5000 square feet and occupies an important position on campus, interacting with the surrounding environment. A road starts from the campus and winds down along the terrain contour, surrounding it. The landscape around the site is an interaction between open spaces and academic buildings.

Project and Narrative - The project requirements are deeply rooted in the core values of the center, emphasizing that design can inspire collaboration and meaningful academic interaction. The project includes classrooms, administrative offices, studios, and a small restaurant located on the basement and ground levels. This raises a key question for us - can this project redefine the meaning of academic venues for places like Manipal while meeting spatial needs? TAPMI has redefined traditional teaching buildings with the aim of designing spaces outside of teaching hours and reimagining them as community centers.

Beyond demand:Design strategy - The design approach of TAPMI Inclusive Growth and Collaboration Center reflects and redefines its role in campuses, communities, and cities. This vision is driven by three key concepts:

Architecture as a social and community space - TAPMI does not have vertical or horizontal expansion projects, but explores the potential of terraces. Due to heavy rainfall, the terrace has not been fully utilized in the area. Therefore, TAPMI added a canopy to the terrace to make the space adaptable and open, facilitating community participation. This adds a 'post life' to the structure, allowing learning and community to coexist. The terrace becomes a part of the land and extends downwards in a stepped manner to promote the connection between people, land, and architecture. The core of the center is Angala, an open open-air theater that serves as the center for multiple events and is almost seamlessly integrated with the adjacent roads.

Angala, as a porous connecting hub, makes it crucial to cover the terrace in response to the local climate. TAPMI drew inspiration from the common bamboo "Chhatris" found along the banks of the Varanasi River in India. These traditional sunshades not only serve as the starting point for commercial, religious, and recreational activities, but also provide shelter as architectural elements and symbolize the continuity of local artisan culture.
Angala 作为一个多孔的连接枢纽，使得覆盖露台在应对当地气候中变得极为关键。TAPMI从印度瓦拉纳西河岸常见的竹制“Chhatris”中获得灵感。这些传统遮阳篷不仅是商业、宗教和娱乐活动的起点，也作为建筑元素提供遮蔽，并且是当地工匠文化连续性的象征。

TAPMI collaborates with skilled craftsmen, not only linking craftsmanship with its historical roots, but also committed to empowering future generations. The sunshade network covers the entire terrace, cleverly intersecting at important locations to form a coherent and practical space.

Architecture as a landscape - Architecture dissolves the rigid separation between land and architectural form. It extends outward, extending its functions to community spaces, formal event and gathering places, and often serves as a passage connecting different heights of terrain. By designing bridges, ramps, and buildings directly connected to the ground, everyone can easily access these spaces.
建筑作为景观 - 建筑消解了土地与建筑形式之间的僵化分隔。它向外延伸，将功能扩展到社区空间、正式的活动和集会场所，并经常充当连接不同高度地形的通道。通过桥梁、坡道以及与地面直接相连的建筑设计，使得每个人都能轻松进入这些空间。

Architecture serves the city - As a vibrant community node, TAPMI Center builds a bridge between academic space and community space. This building has no traditional entrance or main door, which enhances its openness and accessibility. Even during non academic hours, students can utilize these spaces for various activities, making them a continuously active center. By integrating landscape concepts with the concept of shared resources, this project not only showcases innovation, but is also deeply rooted in the context of sustainable development.

Structure is architecture, architecture is interior - TAPMI weaves the entire narrative together, making the structure a building and seamlessly transitioning into the interior. The materials and methods used in this project connect the past and present, ensuring the promotion and protection of the region's traditional craftsmanship. In addition, the project provides a new perspective for sustainable development that goes beyond ecological considerations and emphasizes cultural continuity by opening the building to everyone.
