Design methods for scale and roof landscape. Sports buildings are usually large in size, and if designed as a multi functional venue complex, it may disrupt the scale harmony of most of the low rise buildings on campus and at Lawrenceville High School. Therefore, ensuring the appropriate height of the new sports complex building, especially considering its proximity to student dormitories and the Kirby Science Building, is a key element in the design.

The large volumes of swimming pools, ice rinks, and basketball courts are cleverly lowered and placed on lower floors, making full use of the height difference of the venue to ensure that the upper level area serves as an audience seating area, from which the audience can overlook all the venues. The curved roof design unifies the visual language of the building while cleverly breaking down its volume. The old sports hall is characterized by a beautiful curved structural framework, while the new sports hall echoes its rounded arc-shaped contour, giving the building a unique personality by connecting two straight sections with the curved peak. The design of the concave ceiling creates a unique curved contour, allowing horizontal light to pass through the eaves of the restaurant and the hidden mechanical room, providing open space for the swimming pool and skating rink, while effectively alleviating the sense of scale of large facilities.

Circular design method. This project integrates the dining area under the same roof, promoting the integration of ordinary students and athlete students. The school made this important decision to ensure that the building is open to everyone and has a profound impact on daily life on campus. This design makes the building the center for students to participate in various activities throughout the day. The new restaurant can accommodate over 500 students and faculty members every day, meeting the daily needs of the campus. The design also includes a mezzanine specifically designed for first-year students to create a sense of belonging and community.

Streamline planning clearly distinguishes the routes of different users and simplifies route navigation strategies by assigning primary users to different floors. The upper level serves as a hall, overlooking all the venues and connecting them together. Large community and gathering spaces, including restaurants and upper level halls, serve as anchor points for public spaces, forming a smooth spatial layout. The lower level is planned as an athlete only area, gathering all students from the sports field across the street, guests who come to participate in the competition, and students who enter the changing room. Whether from the main campus to the north or from the sports field across from the creek and South Ring Road, all routes intersect here.
